The easiest and most affordable way to improve the sound would be to use an external DAC (such as Cambridge Audio's DAC MAGIC, but others will do) and connect it to your Mac with an optical or USB cable, then connect the DAC's output to the AUX input on your BS3200. You will always depend on the 3200's preamplifier anyway, but this one is quite good already.

I don't think the optical output is going to slow down your CPU.

Connecting my MacBook with my Beosound 3200 using Firewire

Dear fellow Beoworldlers,

I imagine this has been asked before so I apollogise for asking it again, but it's been a long while since I was on here last.

How do I connect my MacBook running Lion to my Beosound 3200 without loosing to much of the "quality" of sound.

Up to now I have been using the headphone socket but I have been told that is a big no no.

I am told I should use the Firewire because this does not take up any resources from the CPU compared to the USB port.

What are your suggestions?

Sadly I won't be able to enjoy the sound to much due to the neighbours so it does not have to be the platinum solution.

Any pointers greatly appreciated, Regards Toby
