An update:

I bought a Gen1 Ipod Touch and i have paired it to my apple tv and itunes so i can control both

I am using Remote V1.3 and it works a treat.

I can scroll through playlists and albums and access genuis everything really and i can see it all on my Ipod touch and control the system as long as i am in range.

Also you get the album art on the Ipod touch so it works well.

Re: Apple TV With i-phone / ipod touch remote App

Seanie:

I know you can use the remote to control and browse your music and use it as a remote from any room.

Also have you ever seen a nice wall mount so it could be mounted on the wall in rooms without Visual access to the Apple TV

Well the original Remote.app does not work very well with apple TV in linkrooms as i am informed. The reason for this is that you have to navigate in the dark untill you reach your musicfolder, Then the remote works as with any other itunesinstallation. For visual control, there is another app called "Rowmote". This will let you control Apple TV WITH visual control over all menues etc. However, it requires a plugin installed in your ATV (se rowremote.com for details). Besides music, you will have control over all content on your ATV. I have not yet installed the solution in my own house, but will do so shortly and keep you informed.

Re: Apple TV With i-phone / ipod touch remote App

Seanie

First, a clarification I hope I do not bore you with: The application to control AppleTV with your iPhone / iPod touch is called "Remote.app". You can download it for free from the iTunes Store and it is being installed on the iPhone / iPod touch, not on AppleTV. It is the same application that allows your mobile device to control the iTunes application running on your PC/Mac.

To work correctly, your Phone / iPod touch must have a Wifi connection to the same Ethernet subnet as your AppleTV is in, which at home is not a big issue as you most probably will have ONE subnet anyway. So, given your Phone / iPod touch "sees" your AppleTV, it will enable you to select media content to be played - and will display the content info on the display of your Phone / iPod touch.

If you have two mobile devices running Remote, both will display the content info, and both will be usable to control the AppleTV simultaneously. Your lounge / kitchen example will work ok, if you are willing to take a waiting time of about five to ten seconds to switch your iPhone / iPod touch on, connect it to Wifi, find the AppleTV and display the content info.

I think, the limit of five remotes quoted on the Apple website is not for the use of iPhone / iPod touch, but for the use of the small white Apple infrared remote, which has no display. The number of Phone / iPod touch devices connecting to the Apple TV is theoretically only limited by the number of available IP-addresses in your network's IP-subnet, best case 253 devices.

Could you restate your question regarding wall mounts more clearly? Would you like to mount the Apple TV nicely or the iPhone / iPod touch remote?

Best regards

This question is for anyone who is using Apple TV with the ipod touch / iphone app installed.

I know you can use the remote to control and browse your music and use it as a remote from any room.

I read on apple website that you can pair upto 5 remotes with the apple tv.

If for example you have 2 remotes one in the kitchen and one in the lounge.

if you select a track in the lounge will the remote in the kitchen show what is currently playing??

Also have you ever seen a nice wall mount so it could be mounted on the wall in rooms without Visual access to the Apple TV
