My real reason for posting is to point out that, if you're anything like me, you'll get as far as doing a few and then think "Stuff this, life is too short" and just buy the CD or download the album from the net.

If I was only so lucky ... there are still a few albums of mine that have not turned up on the CD shelves ... and I have never stumbled across anyone lese who has done the hard yards for me

... I used Goldwave and tried removing *snap* *crackle* and *pop* but felt that in doing so I also lots some of the richness of the music, so I desisted

On the Mac I know use Audactity and listen while I crunch my cornflakes (j/k)

I have managed to connect the B&O to the Mac, but as many people point out it is a bit of a palaver, so downloading from Itunes is winning out, and when I am wanting to hear vinyl I just play it!

Anyone know where I can get an FM aerial type 8902010, which is the original one for the system, or should I just get a modern amplified aerial and hide it behind the curtains?!!

I use a program called "Sound Studio" that came with my early Mac Mini. I record 1 side at a time, then split. Recording and splitting is not the hard part. The hard part is typing all the tags when I import them into iTunes.

I use Toast and CD Doctor which will remove clicks etc - though I don't! It will auto define tracks etc. Quite good at doing it as well!

Just plug the Beocord into your G5 and record :-)

Audacity is - as far as I know - a simple freeware editor and does not have plugins etc. to remove pops, hisses etc.

To remove it you need a more professional software like Logic (Apple), Wavelab (PC), Bias Peak etc.
They do have special effects, filters, plugins etc. to remove noises etc.

If you don't like computers for recording it would be easy to use a recorder like the Sony PCM-D50:

With this machine you've got a very handy highend recorder that records to PCM. You can just copy the finished tracks to your computer and convert it to MP3, AAC or whatever.

Easy operational, portable and you can just plug it to your different devices. Costs nearly the same as professional software. (ca. 600 Euro)

As a pc user I can't help you with mac software, when I tried this eons ago I used Adobe Audition although I believe you can get software that will have a stab at separating the tracks automatically - all I can advise is that you search the web.

hi all,

after what seems like eons of badgering by SWIRO...

i hooked up my tx2 via riaa amp to my G5, dloaded audacity and viola! works great!

i was curios:

1.) i am just running defaults, any suggestions for optimal settings? input and output...

2.) anyone had any luck using the noise removal feature? didn't seem to work well for me.

3.) do you record the whole side and then split the tracks? that seems to make sense to me...

4.) anything else?

SWIRO claims she likes the crackles and pops, and i suppose i do also, but would like to reduce them a bit...

of course, right in the middle of recording for the first time... she said: "can you do that with cassettes?" ... i replied: "one thing at a time, dear..." ...would i need to include a beomaster then? or would the beocord just line-in to the G5?

Hi,

it's easy to record your vinyl to your new Mac without problems :-)

What do you need?

Free recording- and editing-software called "Audacity" from here:

Then you need a cable from your Beosystem to your Mac. I don't know the Beosystem 6000 so I don't know which plugs it has. I need a little help from you there :-)
The DIN-plug from your Beogram does NOT work because a turntable always sends out some kind of "disturbed" signal that will be corrected through the phono-amp in your Beomaster!

If you have RCA-plugs (or "cinch" here in Germany) you need the following cable from your Beosystem to the line-input from your Mac:

If you have a simple small headphone-plug on your beomaster you need this cable:

This is a 3,5mm plug. If you have the "big" headphone-socket on your system you'll need a simple adapter for the cable above, too:

Connect headphone out to line-in of your Mac, start some music, start audacity and then you have to watch the levelmeters in Audacity at first. They should stay below 0dB on the loudests part of your music; otherwise the recording will be disturbed!

A good tip for recording: Start the recording on your Mac and then go to your Beogram and start your vinyl! It doesn't matter if there's a big pause on the beginning as you can cut it out with Audacity :)

If the Beosystem has only DIN in- and outputs you need a special DIN-Aux-cable from your B&O dealer or you'll make one by yourself.

I have had a vintage chic Beosystem 6000 (type 2252) with Beovox S80.2 speakers for about 5 years - lovely mellow sound, and I would like to record some of my old favourite vinyl to my brand new Apple Imac 2.66GHz core2 duo with OS X 10.5.4 software...

Do I have to connect the whole system or just the Beogram 6000 (it has a DIN plug) ?

Is it too much to ask of these two generations of technology to exchange of sounds - ie record vinyl to digital files and maybe play the mac through the B&O? Can the old dog cope with a new bone?

Another Q, is how can I improve the FM reception, I have the standard co-axial plastic coated wire aerial, any suggested improvements?

Any other suggestions gratefully received.
