&lt;p&gt;Nope, the very first electronically-controlled linear arm was Pierre Cl&amp;eacute;ment&amp;#39;s A1 deck.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;He finalized his design in 1968 in Paris, see the picture &lt;a href="http://www.proactif.com/rb/platine.htm"&gt;here&lt;/a&gt;&amp;nbsp;and &lt;a href="http://www.audiofolia.com/Download/RDS201.pdf"&gt;there&lt;/a&gt;&amp;nbsp;(in French but with photos of the innards). Here&amp;#39;s the 1968&amp;nbsp;&lt;a href="http://www.audiofolia.com/Download/brevet_clement.pdf"&gt;patent&lt;/a&gt;!&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;It was not fully automatic but used the optoelectronic sensor... a few years before B&amp;amp;O who refined it to perfection!&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;They are &lt;span style="text-decoration:underline;"&gt;thee&lt;/span&gt; B&amp;amp;o table (IMHO) and you don&amp;#39;t see them *that* often. They aren&amp;#39;t going to make any more! &lt;img src="http://forum.beoworld.org/emoticons/05.gif" alt="Wink" /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
