It has sent me down a few roads... discovering the Mission DAD-7000 as well!

I am not sure where to head next. I have several CDX's already, so I might go ahead and pull the worst one apart and see if my project intent is even viable before proceeding any further.

I was leaning towards sticking with the CDX as the control panel (or part of it) might be re-planted. Also, they may well be more available as it seems a lot of these older players (non B&o) have likely already met their demise!

Re: CDX ...only ugly need apply!

Not quite that simple as the chassis is the original Philips 101 ( the 100 was a prototype) but the electronics are the trusty 104, one of the best CD players of its time. The CDX was made in the Philips factory but the control mechanism is bespoke to B&O. The laser assembly and DAC circuits are all pure Philips though so I think there should be quite some interchangeability. Have a look at this site! http://www.marantzphilips.nl/philips_cd101_cdplayer/

Re: CDX ...only ugly need apply!

Peter :

Why not look for a Philips CD104 - same machine in an electrical sense. Much easier and cheaper to find. The CDX is a 104 in a 100 type set up.

Are the mechanical parts (except from the outside trim) interchangeable as well?

Re: CDX ...only ugly need apply!

Why not look for a Philips CD104 - same machine in an electrical sense.
B.) Nasty cosmetics, breaks, cracks, scratches, whatever is OK

I can PayPal or trade! Let me know what you have.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
