If the MCP5000 and Terminal 5000 work fine from your link room, the problem sounds like it is definitely the IR receive circuit of the BM5000 itself. Since the BM5000 was very popular, you may want to find a replacement on eBay. Just an option if repair is too difficult or costly.

Beomaster 5000 IR link problems

I have a Beomaster 5000 and am having intermittent problems with transmitting from the MCP to the console. I have a master control link in another room hooked up to a Master Control link 82 2041 and the MCP works fine as does the smaller remote. I called B and O and they said it might cost 600 bucks to repair. Are there any inexpensive solutions to this problem? I have another master control link (just the small rectangular one with the speaker, timer and red bar control) but I do not have another Master control link 82.
