I was not that interested due to the experience of other Beocords needing belts and what not to even function. Another Beocord for service?

Anyway the condition was and still is very nice so I plugged in some 240 voltage of power to test it a bit. I found 2 tapes and what did I know but playback, rewind, fast forward were all there. All the lights and everything. It was and still is 100% working!

So I bought it for not much and I still have it as a spare Beocord.

Currently I'm using a Beocord 6000 which is recently serviced by Dillen and playback is very good but limited recording wise.

While the 6000 was serviced I used the Beocord 5500 with the BM6000 and found it to be working together very well and sounding good. I did have the BM6000 remote options as well working like they should. Push recording and the BC would go to record pause mode and so on with the rest of the options with a 2035 remote.

The king of Beocords are Beocord 9000 followed by the Beocord 8004. Beocord 5000 is said to be the better one due to the lack of auto reverse. I have yet to experience that in person.

Owerall I'm very pleased with my Beocord 5500 and I will keep it as a spare Beocord. I do have a Beocord 9000 soon to be serviced so I might not be using it alot.

Re: Just bought Beocord 5500

The Beocord 5500 is really a wonderful machine. The Autoreturn makes it good when you aren't there to change side and the heads+electronics are very fine indeed. My 5500 has been working fine and haven't been with problems yet, these machines are very stable.

The Beocord 5000 is basically a fusion between a Beocord 2000 and an 8004; The transport mechanism comes from the 2000 and the electronics + heads originates from the 8004.

The BeoCord 5500 is fancier with controls and so on, but I think you will find that Peter (to whom I defer) will say the 5000 is the technically superior machine.

Wonderful that it is working out-of-the-box ... if you ever need any rubber bands for the drive mechanism contact Dillen on this site. I bought some from him, and with his help and the download of manuals from Beoworld I was able to fix the wow and flutter on my unit.

Just bought Beocord 5500

Pretty good condition, face is super clean, top has a couple of scartches, overall not too bad, fully functional, paid $60.00 Canadian for it, matches perfectly with the rest of the system, beomaster 5000., beogram 5500 cd player and the 5000 remote. The Beocord sounds sooooo good, no other tape deck could match its sound quality, I have yet to make a recording on it. What do you all think of this beocord 5500 tape deck?
