I had my beosound4000 tapedeck belts done in my local electronics repair shop... total cost around 50$ if I remember correctly, but that was a while back and still works perfectly.

The same holds true for fast forward/reverse. Press either and the 2000 goes like mad in 1 direction for about 1 second then reverses direction for 1 second and shuts down.

Any suggestions on this one?

The tape deck will need new belts... 9 chances out of 10 it will solve the issue.

Love the Alfa-Romeo logo…. Alfa makes some pretty special cars.

The BeoSound 2000 arrived in pristine condition, beautifully wrapped, but missing the power cord. Numerous emails to the seller confirmed that the cord was lost AND how much the seller regretted the sale at $400. (I agree, this was a below market price.)

The seller offered to provide a power cord from Radio Shack, but I figured I can do this myself and did.

With the power cord in place, the 2000 sprung to life with excellent sound using the CD, BUT the cassette player has a problem.

Press PLAY and the 2000 begins to play in one direction for about 1 second then it reverses direction, also for 1 second, then shuts down. This process maybe repeated as often as desired, with NO change.

The BeoSound 2000/Century is a wonderful all-in-one unit. You can also hook up a minijack-to-DIN adapter cable and connect any newfangled iPod/mp3 device you wish! It was my main system in college and grad school.

This BeoSound included a Beo4 remote.

Until now my remotes have been the basic unit that came with my Beomaster 2400 and a 1000 that I acquired for the Beomaster 4500.

As such, I am looking forward to the arrival of both.

The room size should not be a problem as my intended use is the kitchen.

One glass door instead of two

No possibility of integrating into a Master Link or Master Control Link multiroom network

Sound level and quality commensurate with speaker size

Limited expansion or mix and match options

On the other hand, the good news is that BS2000 will accept commands from a Beo4 remote, if one elects to use a Beo4

For $400, and assuming a good state of conservation, BS2000 is a great choice. A great little unit for a small room, no doubt.

I certainly meant no offense as I have only seen these 2300 units in photos. However, from the pictures, the unit “appears” a bit bulky and just a little dated. If this assessment is incorrect, I apologize.

I am most impressed by the appearance of the BeoCenter 2500; however the bidding on eBay often goes to around US$1,500. (or more)

Then I found this 99.9% pristine BeoSound 2000 with all its manuals, etc for US$400 and I purchased it. Not quite as exquisite as the 2500, but still.

So I’ll ask, what is the difference between the two?

We've owned our BeoCenter 2300 since 1998, mind you, and never elected to purchase the speakers you mention. We went with a nice pair of BeoLab 6000. BeoCenter 2300 worked and works with any B&O self-amplified speaker.

It is a good choice (If it's a good deal, depends on the price) I have one (In europe it's called BeoSound Century) -and is has an impressing sound compared to other portables.

Well -the BeoCenter 2300 isn't exactly what I would call a portable (and not clunky). The speakers that you mention were the first ones made especially for the 2300/2500/Ouverture range. But it can stand alone, and be connected to any B&O speakers.

This is a little like worrying about closing the barn door AFTER the horses are gone, but….

I have been looking for a solid B&O portable to replace a tattered Fisher Radio, CD, Cassette recorder.

So much of the B&O line appeared clunky to me (like the BeoCenter 2300), BIG speakers, usually bright blue, and connected by some kind of bridge. The remainder went for astronomical prices on eBay, $1,500+, as in the BeoCenter 2500.

I finally settled on a BeoSound 2000, all black, and supposedly in 99.9% condition with all manuals, including the intriguing Beo4 remote.

Did I make a good choice?
