Dear All:

With the Beosystem 3, an HD DVD is not necessary. BS 3 takes of your upconverting and some additional picture enhancing extras.

My wife and I saw the Beovision 7 last week. It is spectacular. The picture quality far surpassed anything except perhaps an Avant.

I don't think both are yet ready for prime. The whole 1080P on a 40" screen may be debate-able too.

I think it would be nice if B&O would support the leading technology in a few years.

Lastly, we can always at external devices like HDR2 to the BV. Why put a drive now into the DVD when only half of all new released movies would be available in that format? For me, based on price and content DVD is still th prefered choice, even though I see the need for the new formats to support bigger screens or projecotr cinema installations.

You raised some excellent points. I had no idea about the CD issue and OS isses. Both HD-DVD\Blue-Ray seemed to fly off of the shelves here in my area of the states.

Like a said the BeoVision 7 picture is still the most beautiful TV I've seen even without the HD DVD.

You're right. Considering that the BS3-based BV7-40 also upscales normal DVDs, I'm not sure if a HD/Blu-ray DVD player is a necessity. Most people still own regular DVDs and, over in the UK at least, Blu-ray DVDs are twice as expensive (or more!).

If you wait 2 months you'll find that you'll be able to buy or order the new BS3-based BV7-40 in Sweden. I know it's due for launch in the UK in around September. Personally speaking, I'd be seriously annoyed with my dealer if he let me buy the current BV7-40 now, with a vastly updated model due 'within months'.

US prices are always without tax, so if you add the average 8% and then the 1000 for the stand you are pretty much in the same range. Except that you nordic guys probably have 20 or so percent tax .....

But i payed the same money for a BV 7-40 720p not 1080p BS3 equipped=(

I think there are several reasons:

1- First, B&O would had to choose between either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. The combined player by LG is considered a disappointment as its software doesn't work particularly well for advanced features of either format.

2- The current HD players in either format are too bulky to be physically integrated inside the BV-7 or the BC-2. B&O will have to wait until more advanced chipsets are available, needing less PC boards.

3- The Blu-Ray format is still evolving. This fall, an enhanced Java language interpreter (BD Java 1.1) will be available to provide better interactive features on the discs. The question of whether the software of existing players will be upgradable to BD Java 1.1 is still open.

4- Some HD players have trouble reading CDs or burned DVDs. For example, the Sony BDP-S1 player cannot play CDs!

All of these points unfortunately show that HD player technology still needs to mature. So the current choice of B&O to provide a built-in DVD/CD player is the safest for the moment. In two years, this will obviously change. If one wants to play HD discs now, it is probably better to connect a third party player to the B&O TV as the current player technology will be quickly made obsolete.

Its sheep if you ask me! I taught B&O where more expensive in the US but obviously not?

$13250 = 87565 Swedish Kr. ($1= 6.61 Swedish Kr)

I bought the "EURO" Beovision 7-40 MK II 720p without BS3 and FullHD last week, and payed: $14651 !!!! without electric stand!

So the total cost was 109.000 Kr = $15931 with the stand !

The price is $13250. It does not include the stand. However, the BeoSystem 3 is built in and you have an option center channel speaker 7-2 oe 7-4. Go with the 7-4. the TV itself was beautiful i could take my eyes off it. I only hope that the DVD will be upgrade the Blue Ray\ HD-DVD. Why have a 1080p TV with a DVD player integrated and not have a 1080p DVD? Here is where B&O failed the bring the right option to the US. Even without the HD-DVD and picture and quality was excellent. This TV is much better then a Plasma (Beovision 4) option in my opinion.

The Dallas store got the BV7 in yesterday and it looks great. The way the DVD operates is smooth. I wish it is HD and\or Blue Ray in it though.
