Its the new one (type 291 x) I would prefer the complimentary beogram 2000, I would have to be patience and wait for one to be available on ebay. Is the DIN plug of a higher quality than regular RCA plugs that's found on the RX? Yes and the use of Datalink would be brilliant.

Thanks so much for your response, I'll let you know when I received my first component. What do you own?

DIN plugs are very good quality - they are a European standard not really used by the Japanese so are less seen. However Quad and Naim are both advocates if that is any indication.

I have a variety of active systems at present - Beogram 3000 Thorens , Beolab 5000 is my main record system but I also have a Beogram 4004 and Beomaster 5500 set up and a Beomaster 4401 and Beogram 4001 in the hall. There is also an 8000 system but this is the least used. I must confesss that datalink is not a must for me as I always clean the record before playing anything!

There are two. There is the old one and the new one. Both will work with the RX type turntables but a similar looking one would be the Beogram 2000 which has the DIN plug and Datalink. It has the same incredibly slim design that looks so good in these decks.

However before we Europeans get too excited, clearly your issue will be finding B&O as the market in the US is different. Keep us posted on what you find!

Re: looking to join the brilliant culture of B&O

I would shy away from the RX or RX 2 as they were built with RCA outputs which means you won't have remote control facilities when connected to a B&O amp which may have. The Beogram 5000 is basically the same deck with remote control facility via datalink (as all are of this design which include the 1800 & 2000 neither of which support remote). The 5000 is a little more refined and would be my personal choice if you are looking to connect to a B&O amp. It will sit very well with a beomaster 5000 which is one of the better amps of the same era.

On the plus side though the RX 2 can be connected to any non B&O amp without the need for any converter leads.

Keep the questions coming and I'm sure you will end up with exactly what you need at the right price.

Just one more thing - NO Beograms travel very well in the post, especially if packaged by someone who doesn't know what they are doing, so really try and find one within collecting distance.

There's a rich vein of enthusiasts on here with exactly the same opinions as you

The RX-2 doesn't have an inbuilt pre-amp, so you will need to look at BeoMasters that have one built in. Most technical specs of amps and hundreds of other products can be found on our main reference site too!

To be cost efficient as possible I'm looking at options on ebay. I'm really interested in purchasing a Beogram and amplifier. I was wonder if most turntables will connect to most amps? Being a designer I really really love the modern approach to their designs. I particularly love the Beogram RX-2. Would that easily connect to a Beomaster 2000 for example? Basically I want to create an escapism section of my office that would simply have a B&O amp, turntable and headphone to enjoy Miles Davis, Kind of Blue.

Thanks for your time
