The answer is really simple but a little unfortunate - a Beomaster 5000 will not work with a Beolink 1000, or any of the later remotes! It uses a completely different IR carrier frequency and probably different command codes as well.

The only remotes that will work are a MCP 5000 (again, none of the later Master Control Panels will work!) or a Terminal 5000. MCP's come up all the time on eBay, the terminals seem much rarer.

Hello,
I need help to figure out why the Beomaster 5000 won't respond at all to any B&O remote. I one the Beolink 1000. I borrowed a new remote from a retailer. Nothing.

I asked B&O for a schematic or service manual for my B&O Beomaster 5000 receiver and again for the Beolink 1000, but I am not expecting anything, so I hope someone here will offer a sound suggestion. I am qualified to read schematics and perform repairs.
