The B&O output levels are near conventional MM, just slightly lower. Up the volume a little and you're fine. If your preamp has selectable load capacitance for MM input, I think the higher values (220-470 pF) are more correct - but you're free to experiment which setting you like the most, it won't harm anything.

A Beogram 4500, 6500 or 7000 will have a built in RIAA. They do have DIN plugs though. All the MMC1-5 range are exactly the same cartridge but with different cantilevers and styluses. If you have an old MMC5, Axel can replace the cantilever with a sapphire one and turn it into a MMC2.

Yes, even the MMC-4 is an improvement. MMC-5 is bottom of the line - it makes its own grooves

thank you for your help,

My reciever is a H/K avr-247, it does not have a phono preamp, so Im now looking at a project or NAD pp2. I didn't even realize I had to get one. Is a MMC3 or MMC2 that much difference over a MMC5?

A big disadvantage of the RX is the lack of a 'Stop' button. If you're in the middle of a record and want to turn it off you have to hit 'Pause' (which raises the tone arm), then manually move the tone arm back to the rest position. Go for the RX2 or TX2 depending upon your preference for radial vs. tangential tracking. The TX2 will probably cost more but the big determinant of cost is the grade of cartridge fitted to it. And be sure your receiver has a built-in RIAA phono preamp, as none of these three turntables have one. Lastly, all 3 turntables you're considering have RCA connectors, not DIN. If your receiver has DIN inputs, you'll need an adapter, which you can get on eBay.

Im looking at purchasing an early RX turntable. I really cannot find too much info on this model, I have however found quite a bit on the RX2. Would the RX in good working shape be a good starting place, or should I look at trying to find a RX2 or TX2.
