The sound is incredible.

I have mine hooked up to a set of RL60's for the front and a pair of CX-100 for the rear.

I also have it plugged into a CD-X and a Beogram 3000 (80's Version)/

I used S75s with my 2400 and the sound was excellent. Also consider S45-2s - both of these speakers should be cheap!

To advance the system in the future, consider a Beogram 4004 if your receiver is a 2400-2 as this will be controlled by the remote and also think about a Beogram CDX for any CDs.

Re: What should I expect?

Welcome first off!

I think you will be satisfied, as I had very similar beginnings in audio equipment. B&O to me is more of a precision piece, sort of on the opposite end of the spectrum than paradigms. I too have chosen retro B&O (late 80s) and discovered that they carry a little bit more richness with them than most new products. As far as improving the potential speaker problem, I would suggest active (beolab), the better side of B&O. Anything would really be an improvemnt because the CX is the entry level/beginner B&O speaker.

Cheers

As an experiment and an indulgence, I have put together a very modest B & O system, an antique one.

I'm taking delivery on a Beomaster 2400, a Beogram 1602 and a pair of CX 50 speakers.

I'm hoping for something that sounds better than what I could buy in a chain store, and that has a pleasant - if not exactly audiophile - sound. That said, what should my expectations be?

I already own a fair amount of low end audiophile stuff, and that's my base for comparison. For example, my family room system is an Antique Sound Lab tube pre-amp; a Trends Audio 'class T' amp; an Oppo 980-H universal disc player, both the Sony XDRF1HD tuner and an older Magnum Dynalab; a pair of Paradigm Atoms and a Squeezebox.

When I want to do vinyl I use a Rega P1.

My best guess is that the B/O speakers will be the weakest part of the chain. What can I do to help myself, and - again - where should I set my expectations?

Best,
