The tonearm dragging across the record reather than lifting and lowering is a standard issue
for many decks in this range. It's a fairly simple fix, down to lubricating a point inside, directly under
the tonearm pivot point.
We had a thread about this some time ago and I remember adding a photo too but it may have
been killed in the latest forum upgrade.
Maybe some other member has more luck in finding it.

EDIT:
Found it, it's near the bottom of this page: http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/t/12210.aspx?PageIndex=2

I’m new to Beoworld, but have been a fan of B & O since the 70’s. I recently picked up a 2402 & it has some issues. First off, it doesn’t cue when either 45 or 33 is selected. The arm moves, but it drags across the record. Also, it seems to go to about the second song on 33, not the edge of the album. (I don’t have any 45’s so I don’t know if it does the same there) It wasn't packed real well when it was shipped to me. The platter was still attached & the tone arm was not secured.

I’ve been in electronics for over 30 years, but I have zero experience with B & O equipment. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
