Thank you for making my day…..$5,000 for a BM 4500 and 4500 CD player. Incredible.

I paid about $380 on eBay for my Beomaster 4500 which is cosmetically pristine, if not perfect. I initially purchased this 4500 as a temporary replacement for my McIntosh 2255 which went back to the factory for repair.

What I found is, while I truly appreciate the fine quality of my McIntosh, I absolutely LOVE the mellow sound from the Beomaster 4500. (By far my favorite amplifier.)

So forget about the 5K and enjoy your marvelous equipment!

I also saw this as odd, but it doesnt look special at all and the dealer selling it doesn't do rebuilds of that level. There was nothing more than the receiver and CD player included.

It's not uncommon for some (but by no means all) dealers in the US to refurbish vintage equipment and offer it for resale. Generally the older, more established dealers do this, with their history of long-term customers who both have older equipment for trade as well as an appreciation of classic designs. I would be surprised if any of the new, smaller locations which have opened (and often times closed) in the past 7 years would bother. At one level, they should be commended for keeping this equipment in circulation and standing behind it. However, it's not uncommon to see stratospheric prices on these items. I could see customers for a 4500 set paying $1500 for the peace of mind and security that the dealer's technician had gone through and re-capped the set, adjusted the laser, re-taped the glass panels, etc, but have a difficult time believing there is a market at US$5k. If the set were complete with BeoGram 4500, a new MMC >=3, and the wall brackets, it might come close.

Well I got my hopes up for nothing. My 4500 components are currently not in they're peak cosmetic condition due to an unappreciative previous owner, so I'm trying my best to restore them.

That does sound very high ... the total for the 2 units at both the sites i gave previously was between USD1100 - 1200 .... of course if your talking ebay etc it would probably be less...

Well that is very different from what I saw in my dealer. There were the same two components which were for sale for USD-5000.

Thought I might try to assist in your request...

Not sure about the 'actual' cost in the US and desirability there, but you can check out the following Danish websites which will give you a guide on the international 'asking' price. Obviously these are units in mint condition and allow for some warranties and aftersales service so will be a little higher than a private seller can expect to get so would be on the high side.

1. http://radioogtveksperten.dk - BM4500 - USD495 / CD4500 - USD 587.

2. http://bbuy.dk - BM 4500 / CD 4500 - USD550.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what a Beomaster 4500 and Beogram CD 4500 go for these days? (In the US) Low range? High range? Are these very desireable?
