The speakers are McIntosh XL1s, small two-ways with great sound quality. Can anyone recommend a subwoofer for this setup? Would such a unit be hooked up to one of the second tier of speaker connectors?

Thanks again. Pavarotti and Dame Joan duets on vintage vinyl ring through the house, and I'm grinning from ear to ear.

Turn on the phonograph directly instead of using the remote. This will automatically turn on the receiver and set it to phono input. What happens?

Are you sure you have them plugged into the correct sockets? It sounds to me that the CD player is plugged into the record player socket - the diagram on the back is a little confusing! Unlug all the sources and attach one by one and see how you get on.

Beosystem 5500 problems

I have inherited a Beosystem 5500 with the Beogram CD 50. The system was functional at the time of its original owner's passing. I took the system down, boxed it and put it in a moving van to another state. Now that I'm setting it up in my home, the CD player plays with an horrific distortion, and the turntable makes a 'no source' message appear on the master control panel and won't make a sound as the platter spins. I've checked the connection and it seems secure.

I know I've wired the speakers correctly as the radio will play. I most highly prize the turntable, and would be quite elated to get only that little beauty to work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
