As for the LED segments, they can get intermittent or go out altogether. The problem is in the gold wire that connects the LED wafer to the PCboard. These were not potted yet like modern 7 segment displays. As far as I know, there is no replacement for these. But I have found that the "wire" can be glued back down using a microscope, a very fine pin, and silver paint.

I had nothing to loose on this one. It's been 7 years, and my 7700 is still working perfectly.

These still had a good amplifier. I think it sounds better than the newer chip amps.

Hi Marc, thanks for commenting. there was a section of the clock/counter led out, but now it's working?! and it seems the turntable belt is fine... I was pushing the turn button instead of ph button... noobs... anyway now that I see it's playing, but there's no sound coming out. it's an mmc4 btw. I started to take it apart this morning but chickened out lol. I'd hate to accidentally screw it up, I found a local guy to repair it, but he wants a pretty sizable deposit, (applies to the bill if repair is done) so I have to wait till next week to get it looked at. keeping my fingers crossed that it's affordable.

Having restored a Beocenter 7700 myself, most likely both the tapedeck and turntable will require new belts and a lube.

As to the humm.... time to check the amplifier.

But it's well worth the effort to repair. It's a great sounding unit. If you have any segments out in the LED display, I figured out how to fix those as well, but that requires a microscope.

Thanks for the quick replies guys! Peter: I am pretty fair at fixing stuff, so I will attempt it. as for the speakers I'm not sure what you mean by 2 drive units. it has one speaker in the bottom of the enclosure, and a tweeter in the top. I only spent 30 bucks on it, (and a box with like 40 albums in it) so I am definitely willing to spend a bit more. I saw some other posts mention Soundsmith, so I went there, but it seems a bit out of my range. I think I'll upgrade my membership to use the "For sale" forums. and start looking for another one for parts. Chris: yes I had an album on it, but I had no idea about the safety feature, thanks for telling me about it!

I agree with Peter - well worth fixing.

As for the turntable, did you have a record on the deck when you tested it? There is an inbuilt safety feature which will shut it down if there is no record on the deck.

I would suggest that it could well be fixed. Most of the parts will be at component level and if you are electrically competent, then it is fixable. Much trickier to get cosmetic bits.

I would consider other speakers as if they are the late S45 speakers with 2 drive units, you can probably get better ones for the price of fixing these. Look for S45-2 or S80.2s , but if the latter, check the foams.

Hello everyone, I'm glad I found this forum, it seems there are alot of helpful people here. Anyway. I fell in love with the 7700 (and B&O) when I first saw it back in 82 when I was a lad of 17. However, it cost a lot of money, so I just accepted the fact I would never have one. That changed today when I found one at a yard sale. Cosmetically it is fantastic. Just some very minor scratches. It came with the S45s, and the cute little stands. The speakers need to be re-foamed, no big deal, I know a guy that'll do them both for like 50 bucks. Even with no foam they sound great! I only hooked them up long enough to assess the state of the machine, and only at low volume.

The tuners (all 6) work great, and after that it gets ugly. It seems the right channel of the amp is ill (blown?) Whenever a speaker is hooked up to the right channel (on spk 1 or 2) a loud hum accompanies the music and then the unit shuts down after about 1.5 to 2 seconds. The cassette deck does nothing, I assume that is a belt issue and easy to remedy. The turntable acts like it wants to move when you push the button but only a couple degrees of rotation, and then stops.

So I guess My Question is; Does this sound like it's worth fixing, or should I just keep it to cannibalize, and start looking for another? I am fairly handy and I can fix alot of things myself so if this is a common unit I might just start questing it. But I have wanted one for sooo long I hate to think this was just a tease. I would appreciate any and all advice, and or information on where else to look for help.
