Derek,

Thank you very much. I had assumed that it was something like that. I will take a look in the very near future. I am “betting” that it is the motor.

Right now I am in the middle of trying to find out what is wrong with my much loved Beogram 4000.

If I get through with it in a reasonable period of time, I will tackle the Beocord 9000.

Jeff:

2 things comes to mind.

1) Failing motor

2) Worn/dirty capstan bearing

Dismantle tape deck and remove the main belt coupling the motor to the flywheel. Turn the deck on.. if it still "growls" its the motor. (B&O has a replacement you can buy but I am told it is not as nice as the original one).

If it is a worn/dirty capstan bearing, it may need replacement or lubrication.

Those are my guesses... Martin may know better.

Growling Beocord 9000

Today I noticed that my Beocord 9000 “growls” while in the stop position.

The recorder performs splendidly in ALL aspects, but it makes a growling noise at pause or stop.

Once the timer puts everything into a “sleep” mode, the growl stops.

What is this and is this a cause for concern? If so, what do I do about it?
