Howdy -

You're on to something. AppleTV on BSys3 will give you access to TV-stuff as well as streamed content and MP3s from your main Mac. Mac Mini with BeoPort would give you the N.RADIO package as a separate, linkable item. For one room, try the AppleTV first; if you need extra functionality, run with BeoPort/MacM. Very workable and solid solution. Personal bias for stored movies is for Kaleidescape, but this might not be everyone's solution...

I would get either Airport Express or Apple TV (which can also work as an Airport Express).

Get the Airfoil application,

You can then stream from the mac to the stereo. No Track Info.

You might have a shot at basic Beo 4 control if you get IR Trans/IRED but that requires some technical skills and again no track info.

I have been trying to help a client, but I am real confused.

How would you stream XM (off the internet) to BeoSound 4 with a Mac (in a different room)? Would that system stream iTunes? And if it did, would you get track info on the BS4 screen? And would Beo4 control it? I sure do ask for alot.

I would recommend both together, Mini Mac and Apple TV.

I have an Imac that I use to store movies, sync what a selection to my Apple TV. You can also use the Apple TV as an Airport Express station, with the airfoil software you could stream the XM Radio to it.

I have two Apple TVs: one connected to my Beosystem 1 / Sim2 projector and another connected to my Avant in the bedroom. They will sync with each other so that you always have the same content on both setups, if you so choose. I previously had a mac mini connected to my Beosystem 1 as a media server, but greatly prefer the Apple TV. You can rip and store DVDs onto the Apple TV via HandBrake, and the Apple TV provides a great interface for browsing/playing your iTunes music. I would recommend starting with an Apple TV and seeing how well it fits your needs. It's shortcomings for you will be the lack of XM radio and divx playback. I use my PS3 as a Blu-Ray player and to stream divx content from my computer.

We have a Beosystem 3, Beocenter 2 and 42" BeoVision.

I am considering adding Apple TV for movie rentals and storing/displaying photos. At the same time, I thought we might add a Mac Mini to allow iTunes access and to stream XM radio, as well as to store what few movies we choose to own rather than rent. Our broadcast and XM radio reception in our particular location are horrible, so we thought the Mac Mini could solve that problem for us through internet access.

Does anyone here have any experience with such a setup, or is it a silly way to go?
