I have had both and in an older system, the CDX is more useful. Clearly if you have a 4500 system, go for bthe 4500.

The 4500 CD player is an obvious match for my Beomaster 4500 and I could use the remote with it as it comes with the 7-pin DIN connection, unlike my CDX which has RCA plugs. (Works with my McIntosh setup, so the question is do I want a CD player with the 4500.)

The Beogram 4500 is with a re-seller on eBay, not usually the best senerio, as when they say it works great, that has little if any meaning.... becuase they don't really know.

The unit is close by (relitively) and very cheap.... two attractions at present. We'll see.

The major difference is that the CDX is 14 bit 4x over sampling and the 4500 is 16 bit 2x over sampling. The CDX also has more controls on it but the 4500 has datalink.

What is the major difference between a Beogram CDX and a Beogram 4500?

I have a delightful CDX and have an opportunity to purchase a Beogram 4500 CD player.

I note the difference in appearance as well as the 4500 is the newer of the two, but I’d like to know what to expect in the difference in basic use and performance.
