Hi,

I have a pair of Hojttaler S706 which I inherited from my grandfather. It is great to read something about this model because they seem pretty rare. My plan is to revise them because they don't sound so good anymore. The wooden casket I can do myself with some fine paper grinding, steelwhool and polish (thanks Martin). The woofer and tweeter though seem a bit tougher. Do you have any advice on how to upgrade these with the correct materials? I guess new foam/rubber/wire&speakercables would do them good.

It's a completely different speaker,
The Type M speakers are 2-way cabinet speakers meant for use with f.e. the later valve stereo
receivers like f.e. Grand Prix 608/609/610, Dirigent 609/610 and the Hifi Amplifiers 608/610.
They have a good sound when used with valve amplifiers but will also sound fair with f.e. a Beomaster 900.
Like the S607, they should not be compared to the later Beovox range but they are good speakers for their age
and lovely vintage stuff.
The Type M speakers are a bit rare, as most vintage stuff is, but not extremely.
I've seen pairs sell on Ebay for EUR 20-200.
As always, condition is everything.

If you ask me, every vintage B&O item is worth restoring. The drivers in the Type M speakers are
often found in incredible good condition.
Access to the innards is through the rear panel, a lot of screws and there's a load of rockwool in there.

I restored a pair for use with this Grand Prix Moderne Stereo 609, you can see the speakers
in several photos in the thread.

I just picked up four 'Højttaler' speakers for almost nothing at the flea market.

The label says 'Højttaler' '3-5 ohms' 'Type M'. There is no mention of 'S 607'.

Does anyone know anything about these? I have not had a chance to listen to them yet. There is no access to the actual speakers from the front so I cannot see their physical condition. Are these speakers worth refirbishing?

The S607 speaker was made in 1961.
It's a two-way bass-reflex speaker with the dimensions 30x30x70cm, comprising
a woofer of B&O's own production, the TV 160 KINO that were heavily
used in those years for both TV's and radios, accompanied by
an Elac TW 4/01 tweeter.

They are 3-5 Ohms impedance and meant for use with valve amplifiers, the max
power rating is 6 Watts.

Speakers from this period are generally rare.

Hallo Beofreunde!

Ich bin Besitzer von Lautsprechern des Typs "S 607". Kennt sich jemand mit diesen Lautsprechern aus? Es gibt im ganzen Netz nicht die geringste Information über diese ca. 70cm grossen Boxen. Von wann bis wann wurden sie gebaut? (Möglicherweise irgendwo im Zeitraum zwischen 1958 - 1964.) Leistung? Bin für jede Information dankbar.

Übrigens: Auf dem ovalen Bass/Mitteltöner(?) steht die merkwürdige Bezeichnung "B&O Kino TV160"!
