This, together with a new power adapter, set me back $250 - 110 pounds or so.

Taking them home tonight and we'll see if they work - then I'll see if I can get them to work as VOIP phones

Jasper

Re: Taking Beocoms from UK to Australia

thanks Ian - 99% sure they're Mk1s. If an old PSTN base is an option then I'll probably try this first as saving up for a BV7

Jasper

Re: Taking Beocoms from UK to Australia

How old are the handsets? If they are Mk1's, then they won't work with a new PSTN 2 base. If they are MK2's then they will work (with a PSTN 2 base), but may require a software update if they are early Mk2's (which is not as cheap as you may think). If you can find an Australian PSTN 1 base, then I 'think' you will be OK but I'm not 100% sure. I don't know about the wavelength issue.

It is a complete minefield. If you can afford to do it I would probably just sell what you have on eBay (B&O phones generally do quite well with a decent (technical) description and photos) and buy a totally new set in Australia. You get a new waranty, new battery and your 100% sure it will all work.

Ian

Re: Taking Beocoms from UK to Australia

Don't worry - I'll wait for a techie to come through with the thumbs up before parting with any money - had something in the back of my mind about different wavelengths being used for cordless phones in the two countries.

Jasper

Re: Taking Beocoms from UK to Australia

Don't take what i have said as gospel mind you! - I'm sure someone can confirm or correct what i've said!

Lee

Re: Taking Beocoms from UK to Australia

Thanks Lee - might start keeping an eye on australian e-bay for an old PSTN base - sounds like might be cheaper than upgrading all the phones as well.

Jasper

Re: Taking Beocoms from UK to Australia

I believe a simple change of PSTN Base would do it, but if you purchase the latest style PSTN base, your phones may not be compatible - or may at least need a software upgrade. We have 2 beocom 6000s with a PSTN base. If we got a UK to Australia phone socket adapter would they just not work at all, work but not show caller ID etc or work 100% and I've just got it all wrong? Could I not just get an Australian PSTN base to make everything work?

thanks Jasper
