I noted last year in one thread here, that the Japanese had invested heavily in OLED R&D.

MITI seems to believe that this technology will be profitable to manufacturers. The last time I checked in 2007, the R&D figure invested was around 25 M Euros.

I remain hopeful that wall vids will someday arrive, and that Julie Christie will come bursting out in 3D in Farenheit 451 someday in the near future.

Don't you think that for the absorbent price they're charging that it should be all it one!? And shouldn't the screen be larger? What happens when HDMI 1.5 comes out? What will I tell my children?

I imagine the screen would typically be used along with a high quality receiver though, which would have hdmi port switching and handle the surround sound. The screen probably wasn't made to be an all-in-one package.

well even if it had more connection ports thats not a lot of use if the screen is dead in such a short time is it??

Very small size but it is just a matter of time before there will be big televisions in Oled :-)

well of course screens will get bigger but at the moment no hope on the life, so other technologies moving on might well take over in larger screen sizes.

OLED very interesting..... it doesnt need glass and a flexible plastic substrate can be used for the display- so when production ramps up= very cheap to make in time!

The problem is that at present blue organics have a full life of approx 14K hours ( plamsa is 60K even to half life and lcd much more)

So disadvantage is cost, lifetime at the present and the technologies very speedy move to half life- giving reduced brightness and a yellow tinge- buying one now will result in buying another very soon!

Although I'm quite happy with our new Beoviasion 8's, I thought some of the members might find the Sony XEL-1 interesting.

Quite thin, HDMI ( but no Ethernet )
