A home demonstration is the obvious solution - you may well find Blab 2 does 100% of what you need - the only way to know is to try it.

Aside from personal preferences, bass reproduction relies on so many variants in the room ( construction, location, furnishings etc ) that really you need top try it out in-situ.

Personally I'm not that impressed with the Beolab 2. I'm sure it's great in a surround setup watching a spectacular film, but for listening to music it's too much boom for my taste. The Beolab 6000's aren't bad but I would trade them in and get a pair of Beolab 3's. Amazing sound from a very small speaker.

I had four beolab 6000 speakers and a beolab 2 in my surround setup. Sound was very nice, especially during movies. For music i did not like the BL2 as it has difficulties "keeping up" with faster music. I traded my setup to bl9 (front) and bl3 (rear). So depending on your main usage i would consider changing my Bl 6000 for beolab 3´s. They are IMO way better and does not need the bl2 as much as the 6000´s does. Ofcause design and everything is a matter of personal opinion but i think there is a lot of better value for money than adding the expensive bl2.

I have combined Beolabs 6000 with a REL sub and that works excellent. The difference between the 8000 and 6000 is often overated. Both are fine speakers and the sound is very similar. The Beolab 8000 can deliver more power if needed. Nevertheless the soundpressure of the 6000's is more than enough.

The B&W PV1 is indeed very well rated by the press & specialists, but using a non B&O subwoofer in an audio setup means that in most cases (including with the PV1), you can't send the bass to the sub & the rest of the signal to the BeoLabs , so your Labs will still saturate with bass at high volumes. In a video setup -like I have- this is not an issue, since the decoder sends only the mid & treble to the BeoLabs, and filters the bass to the subwoofer.

Actually, I think B&W makes a bigger margin than B&O with the PV1: yes, it is less expensive, but less powerful, no magnetic shielding, no sound output to the main speakers, and....made in China!

I think I'd take a B&W PV1 sub over the beolab 2 though. Haven't heard it myself, but have heard great things about it. And B&W is typically less willing to sacrifice sound for style, as B&O is. And the PV1 costs less than the beolab 2.

They are very good speakers indeed - very very impressive given their size. However, compared to a pair of BeoLab 8000s or BeoLab 3s, you will see why they aren't the most loved speakers in the range. I know the other two models I compared them to are a step up in price as well, but the step up in price doesn't accurately reflect the step up in sound (which is huge).

Why does everyone slate the Beolab 6000's speakers, i got 6 pairs of these and i think they do a great job, i have 4 attached to my BV7-40 with a BL7.1 yes a BL7.1 on the BV7-40mk iii and its great, got the others linked to a BS4 in the loft room.

I really like them

The BL6000 works great with the BL2. I had BL6000 for 8 years and wanted the BL2, but found it a bit expensive. I bought a plug-in KEF active subwoofer instead. The KEF is not anywhere near the BL2, but it still worked really well, and the 6000's are in my opinion underrated as a front speaker. They did a nice job.

I changed the BL 6000's (and the KEF) for a pair of BL5 january this year, and I'm glad I saved the money and didn't buy for the BL2 in 2002.

Must confess to not being a huge fan of the 6000 and recognise your description. The Beolab 2 will certainly add bass extension to your set up though I confess to finding it a little too much for music reproduction myself. Excellent for surround sound though. However everyone is different and you may find this just what you are looking for. I strongly suggest you ask for a home demo as this is the only way you can really judge if it is for you.

Mate - go for the sub. Take it from someone who's worked for B&O. Where else are you going to find a 10" bass driver in the range without spending 5 grand on the Blab 9's? The Blab 1's looked ground-shaking but were a little disappointing. Get a demo at your nearest store.

What happened, how did you brake your setup? I don't think there is a problem in combining BL6000 and BL2. But you sure know the problems of the BL6000. I had them as front speakers before I added BL8000 and put the BL6000 as rears. There is a huge difference! BL1 would be the best solution IMO, but a BL2 is never wasted together with these speakers.

Does anyone have an opinion of the beolab 6000 and beolab 2 combination. Having broken in my Beasound 4 and beolab 6000 speakers, I still think that the sound requires more depth and bass, although I very much like the style of the speakers. Would the above combination be the way forward... or do I change for beolab 8000's or dare I chance an older pair of beolab 1????????????????

Opinions most welcome to the above......
