No problem! Find AV using LIST on the Beo4. Then GO and DVD. With a CD loaded, the Avant will start playing the music without turning the TV-screen on. You might, however, find the DVD mechanism a bit noisy...

Is it possible to turn off the screen on the avant, and only get audio? If I pop a CD in the DVD player, for instance, would I be able to just listen to the music without having to turn on the screen?

Steer well clear of the early avants ... getting one cheap is not economically a sensible way forward.

If you want a Beovision to play with you could start with an LX series TV which should be available fairly cheaply.

The main disadvatage is the lack of widescreen. I have three and I am very happy with them!

The AVANT Type 8111 is a Mark I/II and was last sold in April 1997

All AVANT's have Masterlink and the other connections are:-

Video:- Tape 2/decoder 2 x 21-pin for AV and Decoder. AV for S-HVS in/out
Camcorder/Auxiliary 3 x phono sockets (video in/audio L-R in -VHS Y-C playback 4-pin socket
Headphone socket Mini jack
BeoLink 1 x ML socket
BeoLink video distribution RF out

Personally, I would look for a newer version mainly because of the life left in the tube. The tubes is these early version did not last as long as they really should have.

The MX7000 type 7800 was last sold in September 1999 and the connections are:-

AV Link 2 x 21-pin sockets
Super VHS YC playback 4-pin socket
Audio AUX Link 7-pin socket
Power Link 2 x 8-pin sockets
Stereo headphones Jack socket 3.5 mm
Motorized stand operation 4-pin socket

It does NOT have Masterlink but it DOES have datalink, so you would also need a converter to link them.

Hi!

I have been looking at buying an Avant or MX7000 for a while now, and now I have the opportunity to get both in one go. They are a bit older than i would like (1997, seller says), and the Avant is green..... :P

The model numbers are 8111 and 7800. Can someone tell me anything about them from these numbers? Are they Masterlink-enabled? Seller wants about £650 for both + beo4, but I think he is willing to go a bit down.

I'm on a budget, and I don't really need a TV right now. Should I wait and get a newer Avant when i find one at a good price, or should i have a go at these two? I really just want to have a Beovision to play with.

Are there component-compatible SCARTs on any of these two sets?
