Hi All

I have a lovely beolit 800 (from the early 60's). I've had it for about 2 years. It has a lovely sound. it is used most weekends while reading the paper in bed!

The last few days it has sounded just slightly 'off station'- not so noticeable until speaking is heard and the dreaded 's' sound.

I'm unsure if it is just a few weeks of 'interference' or whether something is wearing out with the radio. Can this problem be fixed?

Any advice appreciated, or better still details of a good radio mechanic in Sydney?

I have some non original plastic plugs (somewhere!) that do as a good alternative. How many do you need? Drop me a PM to remind me of your address & I'll send you some.

Just a quick question for Stonk - am I right in thinking you have access to a supplier for the plastic plugs which hold the sliding base plate on the 1970's beolits? I need some

No worries - it was a pleasure to write about.

I have four Beolits: a 1960s 600, 70s 600, a 609 and an 800. I have to say the 800 is currently my favourite, but I'm on the lookout for a Beolit 1000 in a wooden cabinet too add to my collection and I'm pretty certain that would usurp the lot!

I gave away my wood 1000 but kept my leather one. Very nice set and lovely tone!

I like your 800 - it's very nice! You're right about the positioning of the speaker, but at least it makes sense when the 800 is used on its side with the handle and the feet out :)

I have some pictures but cannot work out how to post them on the new forum. I read somewhere that it doesn't like Safari - is this why, or am I missing something really obvious!!!

It was yours, Chris, the one that you have sold to me a couple

of years ago!

It still works and it is one of my preferred in my Beolit collection.

Could we hope for some photos of your Beolits?

Due to the fact the Beolit 800 can be used in horizontal position,

I have noticed a particularity a bit odd:

when you look at it in its normal vertical position (the side with

the black plastic feet in front of you) the speaker inside is ferrite side,

therefore if you wish a good listening you have to turn the Beolit rear side

in front of you (letters of the dial appear then upside down).

Thank you also John from me - I had one of these and have to say it was one of the finest beolits I've ever owned!

Also had the very similar 611T which is at Bellac at present.

Just to say a big thank you to John Barker who has written and excellent review of the Beolit 800 for Beoworld. I know John has been very pleased with the 800 though he has managed to keep his review most objective! Many thanks!
