How are the Penta's connected to the 5500?

Did you use the powerlinks sockets?

If so, did you try to set the sensitivity switch to the lowest level?

Not many people will want to run two different pairs of speakers from the same amp in the same room. Hence the lack of help.

It is still not clear just why you would want to do it but hey........each to his own!

The room is not big but will have both pairs of speakers to work on the same volume. Pentas would manage but I want both pairs to work on the same level. I guess there might be differences in how easy the speakers are to run but maybe the active Pentas is the problem. The proposed solution was complicated for a guy not knowing much about pots and resistors. Any other good ideas to make them play on the same level? Assume there must be lots of B&O fans out there that have same experience on BM 5000, 5500, 6500 or 7000 amplifiers.

I don't think this is a particularly good idea if it is meant to be a "listening" environment. If it is just to fill the room with sound without concern for imaging or tonal balance then go ahead.

btw - how big is the room, I'm surprised the Pentas can't hadle it on their own.

You could connect the Pentas using the pre-out from the 5500, with a 'passive preamp' in the signal path to attenuate the signal.

A passive preamp can be made simply by using a potentiometer of the correct value. http://sound.westhost.com/project01.htm Fig 1 shows a simple circuit.

A question that someone might be able to answer?

I want to connect two sets of speakers to the Beomaster 5500 in the same room and play both at the same time. The speakers are Artistic research and Beolab Penta's active speakers. They are both 8 Ohms. The problem is that the Artistic ones require much more volume than the Penta's and therefore it is only the Pentas you hear. If disconnecting the Penta then much more volume in addition is needed to reach the Penta volume. How ca I make the two sets of speakers work with equal volume on this system?
