I haven't heard such news Blankman, but the best judge of the sound will be listening to a pair of BeoLab 4000s with your own ears. I would still urge you to consider the BeoLab 3s. Compare the two if you like at your local B&O dealer. The BeoLab 3s are a bit more expensive, but certainly worth every extra penny in my opinion.

First off, thanks for all the great answers. I have actually been looking at getting a pair of BL4000 along with a BeoSound 4. Only thing is, I've heard that they recently switched to using some of the same technology in the 4000's as in the BeoLab 4's, which makes the 4000's a bit lacking in sound compared to earlier. I've heard 4000's that were a couple of years old, and think they're absolutely fantastic.

Anyone know anything about this?

I generally concur with the others. Go for BeoLab 3s or 4000s (3s are preferable!). There are some other stunningly good speakers in the B&O range at the moment, but I'm assuming they're out of the price range for a 'first hifi'.

If you're still finding current range of B&O speakers to be out of your price range, then maybe look at some of the older 'BeoVox' speakers. There are some to avoid (particularly those starting with 'X', for example the BeoVox X35. For smaller rooms, BeoVox CX100s or C75s spring to mind, or S30s, but bear in mind there is a probability that older B&O speakers will be suffering from an issue known as 'foam rot' (when the foam ring around the edge of the bass/midrange speaker(s) can deteriorate over time and simply crumble away).

I'd fully recommend Lifestyle-AV if you want to look for something pre-owned. Very good service...

If I were in your position, I would buy BeoLab 3s and maybe a pre-owned BeoSound 2300 or BeoSound 9000 from Lee at www.Lifestyle-AV.co.uk

I think your choice should depend upon your budget, taste in music, taste in design and of course the sound. For example, some people would want the power of a BeoLab 2 to support their BeoLab 3s, or perhaps you prefer the design of the BeoLab 8000s over the BeoLab 3s.

All of the BeoLab speakers in B&O's current range are good value for money in my opinion. Just try and avoid the BeoLab 4s if you can.

Hi and welcome, Blankman!

The choice of your speakers depends a lot of the room they are going to be played in. The only speaker from the current range I would not recommend is the BL4, it simply is not powerful enough. The BL6000 have their problems too, but at medium volume and in a not to big space, they can sound really good.

If you want to buy new speakers, the best thing to do is to go to a dealer, take your time, have a listen to them and make your own decision.

In my opinion the BL4000 are the best value for money in the current speaker range. And you can use them as rears or in a link room later on.

Designwise it is all up to personal judgement - I like them.

I am assuming you want new, current product. When I bought it 2 years back, the Beolab 3 Beolab 2 combination was in my opinion an excellent value. Now with the recent price increase in the US and the BL3 beeing priced at 3900$ I would probably look at BL9.

If you are on a budget, used BL4000 would be my choice, even though the design doesn't win me over.

I'm relatively new to the world og B&O, and am in the process of getting my first stereo. In that regard I thought I'd ask you fine folks what you consider a great B&O speaker - quality vs. value?
