I think that the production is still of a high standard.

I guess the reason I find the noise objectionable or at least unusual is that I own a number of other pieces of B&O equipment with motorized doors and they all operate very smoothly and wholly silently. If the noise of the DVD player in the BV7 is indeed normal, it is an unfortunate departure from Bang & Olufsen's usual high standards of mechanical engineering. In any event, the built-in DVD player in my BV7 will see little if any use, since I have a Blu-Ray/HD-DVD dual format player. I will probably use that for most of my SD DVD viewing as well, since it does a superb job of upconverting. Thanks once again to all of you for your comments and observations.

The clunking noise is still present on the BV7-40 MKIII, but much less noticeable than on my old BV7-32. The mechanism must have been improved slightly. I'd guess that if someone bought the BV7-40 MKIII new and had never owned a BV7 before, they'd hear the clunking noise and report it. However, if you'd heard how loud and obvious it was on older models, you'd definitely think the new model is a vast improvement.

Beobuff, I had the Mark II before the Mark III and the sound really didn't bother me at all if I am honest. I think to view it as a problem is not right as it is meant to make this noise as the clamping mechansim performs its job. You could always mention it to your dealer but I wouldn't see it as a manufacturing fault as its not. Perhaps my new set will do it as it runs in. I don't use it much at the moment because I am waiting for it to be region unlocked as all my DVDs are Region 1. All the best.

Well, I am in the States and presumably have a BV7 MKIII, since the earlier models were not sold over here. Neverthless, the DVD mechanism has the same problem that a number of other posters above have also confirmed. So it seems to be a universal fault common to earlier as well as the current production variants of the BV7. One would think that B&O would have had sufficient time by now to sort out this problem, but apparently this is not the case. Thanks to all who have replied to my original post. It is at least some small comfort to know that I am not alone experiencing this problem.

However, my one actually does not for some reason. I have double checked this before posting and it is perfectly quiet all the time. My only explanation is that perhaps the Mark III has been changed? Simon, come to think of it...you're right.My old BV7-32 had the noise you mention above, but the new BV7-40 MKIII does not. Good point! I wonder if the mechanism was changed slightly?

The noise is made by the magnet that holds the disc in place when playing. When there is no disc in the tray and you open the loader what you hear is the magnet disengaging from the tray.I hope this reads OK, I haven't had my cup of tea yet.

Mine also. I have the TV since September 2007. Probably the clamper magnet. When there is no disc, more strength is required from the motor to lift it. The Beogram CD-X makes a similar noise when the clamper lifts from the small platter. So just normal mechanical operation.

I recently purchased a Beovision 7 (production 10/2007) and am absolutely delighted with its performance, except for one annoying mechanical problem. When the DVD player is opened, the vertical door produces an audible clunk sound and a visible jerk, one clunk when it opens and two when it closes. The DVD tray itself is completely silent. What is very odd is that this problem occurs only when the DVD tray is empty, but not when there is a DVD disc in the tray. I called my dealer to report the problem, he immediately checked the two demo BV7s on the sales floor in his shop, and both of them had the same problem, although they hadn't noticed it previously. I mentioned the problem to BOA customer support, and they had never heard of it before. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I am curious as to whether it is a universal design flaw, or a problem with just certain units which is capable of being repaired.

Mine as well (delivered 11/2007). Also only when the DVD tray is empty and not if a DVD is loaded.
