Alex I think you may be right and change maybe coming but its all based on hope rather than evidence. Launching "up to date" LCD's with no digital tuner and no HD seems very very shortsighted. And having had that pointed out to them they then go and launch a new product (is it the DVD2?-- can't check because I am in the middle of this message) with an analogue tuner which here in the west country is due to be obsolete at the end of 2009. Its still on sale!! Why?

Peter -- I have been doing that in recent months. I have bought a pair of 4000, DVD1, BV6-26 and some BL2500 from Lee. His customer service is much better and I have no problem trading with him but his position has limitations. I am in a wheelchair and cannot install my own wiring. From the B &O dealer I had an installed service.

Coolskin -- yes Lintronic I am tempted because it maintains the consistency amongs the B&O I retain which will be for some time as the two BV6-26 are still under warranty for the next 18months. It will also allow for link room use of non-b&O equipment. I think I am frightened of the "installation" though it doesn't seem to be much worse than some of the remotes I have seen.

Alex. I do realise that going to a PV1 is a very gentle form of de-beofication but I do need to take it slowly and surely. Personally I thought of replacing the DVD1. I haven't had it long but its only advantage in life is the control I have over it with the beo4. Unfortuately because of the lack of HD on my sets I cannot go to blu-ray. I will look for a good DVD machine I think as a first step.

Thanks to all of you.

Re: De-beofication

Maybe Michael Lindgaard can be of any assitance...

One of the strengths of B&O is having a good dealer network and it would appear you have been let down in this regard. Take away a good dealer able to set up the product so it operates seamlessly, and you simply have overpriced electronics. I am buying second hand at present for similar reasons.

Re: De-beofication

I can understand why you'd want to 'de-beo', but IMO doing it now is the wrong time. I believe the way B&O do things are going to change soon, with a new CEO etc...

Personally, I'd wait and see what B&O does...

As far as the subwoofer goes, this isn't exactly an area to 'de-beo' in. A lot of avid B&O fans use the B&W PV1, as it genuinely is a fantastic subwoofer. It does have an auto-on, however it can be difficult to connect. An old 5-pin DIN to RCA cable won't suffice unfortunately. The PowerLink sockets may look like normal DIN plugs, but they actually work very differently. I feel one of the 'technical' people who have actually wired one of these cables themselves (unlike me) may be able to answer this more easily than me...

De-beofication

To all,

Following my previous e-mails on BV6-26 and HD I have had taken time to reflect and yet decided that B&O is no longer for me. It is my opinion that they are exploiting the consumer surplus to such a degree that it goes beyond the point whereby it is made up for by the design. I have been a committed B&O'er and my signature gives some degree of my involvement. It understates my position and I have two BV6-26 and an F1000 in addition to my signature. No longer will any more B&O cross the threshold of my home.

Now what about the practicalities of de-beofication? I would view my first step to get a remote that will handle both beo4 signals and any new products that I might buy. There is a separate thread on this but the prestigo seems to be favourite. I notice that Logitech puts a warning out about Bose and Bang & Olufsen signals.

The second step would appear to be an easy one: to add a subwoofer to my system. The popular choice seems to be the PV1. Can I explain -- I am disabled and in a wheelchair and any bending down to switch things on is difficult. I understand the PV1 has a auto setting which will switch on when it receives a signal. Any experience of this? What about the connec tion. I do have around an old 5 pin din tape connection with 4 RCA's will that do the job?

Then what is the next step? One of my BV6-26 has a dolby unit but would you say that an amp or a digital processor is next? I suspect that I could use either as the 4000 and the 8000 will receive line-in. All comments will be interesting before I take leave of this Forum.

Can I go out on a nice note though. Can I thank all the contributors (especially the specialist ones but not exclusively those) for all the interesting answers to my questions and to what I have learnt from others. I could say that the only downside I have noticed and commented is the strong tendency to think that B&O is always right and that the most expensive B&O component is the answer to your question (Beolab 5 is common on this one and the new remnote is another!!!!!!).

Many thanks and I look forward to your views on de-beofication.
