I personally love the much maligned tape decks. If you hunt on the internet or a good audio stockists, you can still get 2 hour tapes - that's 3 albums' worth. I have them made up of genres like 'blues', 'dixieland', 50s rock'n'roll' and so on. Sure, the quality on tape is arguably not great, but on a top line B&O system, it's certainly good enough in my mind. Also, mp3's a lossy encryption format with a quality comparible to, or less than, cassette tape.

The cassette MP3 player is also great, but I love my iPod too much...

Is there an easy way to take out the two driving units that fit into the cassette? If this can be accomplished in a reversable way, together with the iPod cable from Ridax than I can put the iPod into the place where the cassette fits normally, and without damage.

I understand the impulse to modify the 9000. However, it seems to me that the Datalink enabled port offered by Ridax renders any modification less appealing in light of the comments above. Tapping into the display would be an amazing accomplishment on its own however.

I think this would be an excellent way to upgrade a classic Beocenter to modern standards. Virtually noone I know uses cassette tapes anymore.

If you can do this without damaging the look of the system, it would be amazing.

It would damage the resell value for people looking for an original but I'm sure there are plenty of people for whom an integrated CD/iPod unit with looks as fantastic as these would be a real find. Anyway, you're not looking to sell just yet, are you?!

btw - is it me, or is this discussion & the one about the white beogram back to Pimp My B&O?!

Seems a reasonable project. Ridax does do a rather clever dock which allows control of the iPod using a Beo4. If you can somehow tap the display, it would be rather fun! Have sympathy with Francois though! Can't see me doing it to mine!

Wouldn't this render the Beocenter worthless? In my mind it would have no re-sale value after the modifications? You can connect an Ipod anyway although it wouldn't be part of the Beocenter which I guess is your aim.

As the Beocenter 9000 looks so great but is a bit oldfashioned with a cassette part but without a build in iPod possibility, I'm planning to change this...

I would like to rebuilt the cassette part into an iPod part.

Is there any info like a service manual where I can see how I can fix this without damaging it?

Is there any experience with this? So do's and don'ts?
