At a component level I am sure that the drives are pretty similar as the only real difference is the laser length blue as opposed to red and they are also now starting to put slot load drives into PC's so the not enough room argument has no room for excuses

Both Blu-ray and HD-DVD use the same kind of 405 nanometer wavelength blue-violet laser. That means both can focus more sharply than the 650 nanometer red lasers used in current DVD players, and so both can store much more information on the same surface area of a disc

I'm sorry, but no april fools from me either.

I had a meeting with B&O yesterday, and the latest news (a few days old) our importer has, is that the current BR technology cannot be fitted in the excisting BV7-40. Sadly, you have to have a separate BR player.

Let's hope they're wrong, or that there soon will be smaller BR units that can be fitted to the BV7-40.

I had it on good authority that the 7 40 will have a BR player by the end of the year, this came from a dealer who had been given the products road map.

So not aprils fools

Apparently the BV7-40 will not come with an integrated BR player. The physical space required for the BR player isn't there. The DVD player fitted to the BV7 is extremely small, and it is not possible to fit the BR player to the excisting BV7.

However they are sure that BR is the future, and they wil be offering high quality BR players (probably integrated as well).

October 2008 is to early, i think launch will be in 2009, the 1st of april 2009 exactly.

B&o is still working on the 100Hz teknologi. It is not all god about the 100Hz, and there fore is B&o waiting.

The Blue Ray vil propperly come for the new tv's in 2009, but the chances that it also will be possible to change the dvd-player to the Blue Ray in the Beovision 7 is very high.

We constantly monitor, evaluate and develop technologies, and update our concepts to ensure that we at all times offer a relevant, long-lasting concept to our customers. For example our MX-television was on the market for more than 20 years, and had many updates implemented in its lifetime.

We generally do not integrate early generations of technologies, and we only implement a technology when it has reached a mature level, and when implementing it will result in a quality benefit for the customer.

With regard to the two technologies mentioned in this thread, BluRay and 100 Hz, we are evaluating both technologies. With regard to playback of high definition DVD we are currently evaluating both main formats on the market (HD-DVD and BluRay), and consider how we can support either of these formats, as well as the standard definition DVD format, in the future.
Implementing the 100 Hz technology at this stage would incrementally improve some elements of the picture on a BeoVision 7, however, the standard 100 Hz technology results in some drawbacks in relation to other elements in the picture. Therefore, Bang & Olufsen is working on a further refinement of the 100 Hz technology in order to contribute to an overall improvement of picture quality in our televisions, be it on fast or slow moving pictures. Based on this, we cannot at this point in time confirm implementation of either BluRay or 100 Hz technology within this year.

Even without these two mentioned technologies, we are very confident that BeoVision 7 throughout its lifetime is a state-of-the art television with an excellent picture quality that is among the best on the market.

As we've discussed, the BV7-40 MKIII is stunning in HD. 'ok' with SD, but not SD-based football. However, add the extra 6 inches and any SD broadcast would be even more poor and pixelated. Also, the 40 is large enough for the average room. Bear in mind the BV7 has another 16cm or so each side of the screen, which makes it look very wide. Gawd knows what a 7.2 (7.3?) speaker would look like on a 46" BV7. A 2m wide speaker? :)
