I was considering the Velodyne room correction device which can be purchased seperately and used with our current sub.

A little off topic, but any opinions on replacing a Velodyne HGS 12 sub woofer with a Beolab 2? My wife loves the Velodyne and does not want to give it up, is afraid Beolab 2 wont have enough bass.

Have a look at the Velodyne DD-12, which replaced your existing HGS-12. Extremely effective servo driver control mechanism, and a very sophisticated room calibration feature.

I agree with the others, the BeoLab 2 is much less musical, and has a tendancy of blanking out detail. It also seems to struggle with faster basslines.

If you have B&O main speakers, then the BeoLab 9s may be of interest to you! Very impressive bass response (if that's what you want).

The Beolab 2 from my experience is not as musical, and to be honest i would describe this sub as underwhelming.

However when this sub is used when watching movies, it all changes - BANG. Depends on whether or not your happy with the sound you have at the moment.

In my opinion the Beolab 2 is more of an aesthetic piece, when listening to music.

Yes, it was in a Chicago area store....sounds like you heard them the same place I did.

Happily my dealer remembered to set mine up correctly as mine sound SUPERB!! Go for Lab9s you won't regret

Actually the first time I heard them they sounded awful! Set up as free standing but in a corner with the loudness switched on. True torture and very loud!

I fail to see how somebody could not be impressed with them! Maybe when first set up, the midrange can sound kind of closed in, but after a very short run in period they begin to sound great...

I listened to the 9s at the dealer but unfortunately it was difficult to tell how they sounded due to a large fountain in the atrium outside the store making large amounts of noise. However, what we we could hear, did not impress us.

I think I may have just listened to them at the same store with the same impression (fountain is too loud, speakers not so great). Was this in the Chicago area? I wonder if they have them setup wrong or something.

However, what we we could hear, did not impress us. However, as the dealer is offering a great sale price and 30 days to try them out I would not have anything to lose by triyng them at home.

I agree with you ! I have a pair of BeoLab 3s with a BeoLab 2, but after the blind test at the listening room I would go for a pair of BeoLab 9s.

I'd go for the 9's I've listened to them at a B&O listening-room and they are great ! I certainly got to get used to the looks of those 9's and they are lacking the warmth of my beloved penta's [so I will keep them for now] but from reasonably low to high [enough] they sound crips and clear, you really have to hear them yourself.

Yes

We heard three short pieces of music all sounded different but so effortless and natural.

Did you listen in the listening room, in the audio department?
Weren't you amazed to find that the big soundstage you'd heard through the curtain came from two low and quite closely placed BL9s?
It's an excellent demo of the spatial quality of these speakers.
