Until CRT's became "redundant" in the second hand market the Avant commanded a healthy second hand price (now it seems they are a bargain for anyone willing to resist the flat panel thrust). I am however amazed at the price of second hand B&O panels - prices are still two to three times that of a new, superior technology panel from a mainstream producer. While I hope the market stabilises and B&O panels have a long and fruitfull service life as did/does the Avant/BV3 I'm not sure this is the case with the current (and especially older) panels. Who is paying massively over the odds for these???

You're probably right (see my other posts on the BV7), although a 2007 model BV7-32 MKII might be worth considering? You could pick one up for around £4500, has a far brighter panel than the MKI, would show SD without issues and HD would look fantastic. Of course, this £4500 would ship with the motorised stand and the 7.1, which is worth the investment.

un boxed(bang&olufsen) samsung and still waiting for b&o to pull their fingers out and produce the magic they used to do!! but not prepared to spend 10K plus this is ludicrous IMHO

There seem to be more people who've admitted that they've given back or sold their BV7 than kept it, in the last few weeks.

2007 has ended with the sale of my DVD1, Beocom 2, Beocom 2400 and the Beocom 6000 on eBay for it was necessary some good clean up. Having trimmed my B&O collection I will sit and wait until B&O will go back to good value for money. After forking thousands of pounds in 2001 I have not seen any particular product that I could love to own
Also my Avant blew up (as you know)... after 6 years. I never saw anything like this and this really dented my love in B&O products
Recently I got from my local B&O dealer a letter with sales on B&O from 10ish% up to 25% for the "useless" Hard Disk video recorder...
Having upgraded to SKY + there is little point in that product
also "excellent" valuation for older B&Os is promised but to pay another £5000 for a flat screen is a bit too much when I can get a 40" lovely Samsung for £1000
so 2008 starts with a return to my classic Beomaster 8000 recently refurbished and my recent purchase of MS-150.2 speakers
Classic FM has never sounded so good... :)
with the Beocord 9000 and Beogram 8002 I would like to add a CD player and I wonder what is the best classic I can add to this system

I agree with Peter and Lee. I have a CDX connected to my BM 8000 and the sound is wonderful. Very 'analogue' as Peter says. Also with the BM 8000 you have the simplicity of hooking the CDX's RCA jacks straight into the 8000.

If you could find one with the IR board and remote, you could also think about a CD50. These too have a nice 'analogue' sound about them, and the LEDs would complement the LEDs on the 8000. Plus, as a Brucey bonus, you'd have the remote functionality lacking with the CDX.

CDX or CDX2 for me if you want a warmer sound.

Second to that, and lovely looking is the CD4500.

For this system, the Beogram CDX is the easiest by far. Connects to the Tape 2 input and also has a lovely analogue character to it. Apart from some solder joints, almost indestructible!
