I only have 6 choices (Selector, Nokia D-Box, Nokia 9602S, Pace DTR730-IM, Philips DTX6370, Sky Digital). I need an upgrade. Who do I speak to, and (roughly) how much?

I am afraid he probably needs the upgrade. Sky+ is often not listed on Avants.

Poor Philmw.
Nobody seems to have answered your question satisfactoraly.
If you look through your list, you will probably find Pace Sky+, it's number 36 on my list. It will work fine with your box whether it's Amstrad, Thompson or whatever.

That is the point of the STB-C for the Sky+. The TV controls the box through a separate wire with an IR blaster on this. This is how one can use Sky thoughout a link system without being in the main room. That is what I meant by Sky+ integrating with the Avant seamlessly. You would think it was part of the TV.

I just bought a 28 inch RF VCR Avant this morning, and would like to keep things tidy by trying to get my hands on one these brackets so I can stow my STB neatly away as soon as I get the Avant.

Also you can get them off of SchemeBay from time to time second hand.I always wanted to know though: If STB is at back of set how does the remote remain in range. Do you have to use an IR extender?

It is not available brand new but you can buy from SchemeBay. It is still supported - you can purchase a lifetime subscription and the servers still run so you can download program info.

It is also good for modding - there are a few books that tell you how to hack it and you can also add larger hds etc.

What about TIVO? I really like this, prefer it to Sky+ and was thus considering purchasing it. Can this be worked in the same way?

Thanks Peter. I have only just changed to Sky+ (Amstrad box I'm afraid) (and Sky HD (Thompson) in another room) as I was reluctant to stop using my old Sony decoder. Sky+ is wonderful though.

How do I go about changing the firmware?

Yes, and it is fantastic! Integrates perfectly both in the main room and in link rooms. Quite frankly, if you have this, I can see no reason to consider the HDR2. If you don't have Sky+ yet, do your best to get a Pace box - by far the best.
