the volumen problem has to do with the impedance of the powerlink and the impedance of the line-in on the poweramp. nothing to worry about unless it annoys you very much

The Review...

This morgning I received my poweramp. Offcourse I took it straight out of the box to connect it to my bc 9500 (yes the cable worked). I've used a Coldplay and a Sting cd to compare between the normal bc 9500 power and the Aaron. First I listened to the song "Square One" on the 9500 and later on the Aaron. When it was connected to the Aaron I thought it sounded different, but when I switched again to the 9500 it wasnt. I started the song again and angain and listened with my eyes closed to hear the difference a bit better. At the end the voice on the 9500 sounded actually a bit hard (the sst and tss sounds) when I compared it to the voice on the Aaron that was a bit softer/warmer.

After the Coldplay cd it was Stings his turn. Started the song "Sacred Love" and I new that the bass on my 9500 was not that powerfull in that song, so I tried it with the Aaron and the bass was a bit deeper and tighter like I expected wiht more power .

So the differences where not much, but the voices on the Aaron sounded a bit warmer and the bass was a bit deeper. It just sounds like there is more power behind the sound.

At the end I tried a bit heavy-bass lounge/house music from Yvel & Tristan and the drive of the sound was like there was a BEAST running my speakers . Yeah this was what I was looking for....

I've only one question left:

The poweramp has got more watts, but I still have to put the volume @ 40 to get a nice listening volume. I expected I had to turn it to 20 with the new amp but it wasn't... Is this normal ?

I was 22 when i bought my used beocenter 9000 so you are way ahead of me.

I think I'll wait with resparying my speakers, I am planning on buying something active (beolabs) when I get the money. Let me know how it goes when you recieve the amp.

Yes that's the cable from FBS.

The speakers were sprayed by a professional, because glossy colours are very difficult to spray. In the furniture/spray shop was only 1 man of 4 with enough skills to do the glossy colours .

I will receive the Aaron amp probably next week for a try-out, so it would be great if I already had the cables to connect it straight to my 9500. But now I'm 99 % sure the din to rca cable that I already own work fine tooo, so I will try that one first and order another one later if the Aaron stays .

Nice setup, was it difficult to respray the speakers? That cable looks great too, perhaps i should order one. Perhaps you could check if the cable you already got for the computer works between the BC9500 and the poweramp? again the problem is wheater the signal is suppose to come out or go in.

I use a pair of Arrow Zeta's in my bedroom. Spraid them in glossy black so they fit better to my 9500

If I look at the picture above, I can just use my din aux to rca cable that I've already got to connect the Beocenter to my computer. I just have to order another one from flashbacksales. 4 rca leads are actually to much, but I already know the cable for fbs works, so this cable will be fine ...

Nope, should not be more difficult. The thing to remember is that a five-lead din plug/cable carries both in and out signals in both channels (eg like for a tape recorder). And on a powerlink socket the pins carrying the out signal is the exact same pins carrying the in singal in a din cable. It took me a while of studying the configuration of the powerlink-plug and the configuration of a din plug. Perhaps you should visit http://www.beoworld.org/beotech/ to see for yourself:

the audio aux is basicly a fully specked din-socket with the addition of pins 6 and 7. That is why I choose a DINto RCA converter with all 4 RCA leads comming out of it. That way I was shure i could get in touch with "the right pins" inside the powerlink socket (eg pins 3 and 5, corresponding to pins 3 and 5 on the audio aux/DIN socket)

hope this helps, it is very easy, trust me (more confused now? just get a Din to RCA converter with all 4 RCA leads, then it cannot go wrong)

PS: what non-B&O speakers do you use? I have a pair of B&W P5 (floor speaker in rosewood veener, not that pretty)

I think I found my answer

But I'm still not sure what will be the best option. If I can use a normal din to rca cable like this combined to a master/slave powersocket, I don't have to make my own probably crappy cable .

Btw, what did you mean with leads in and out ?

Did you just mean: put the din in the powerlink and the rca cables in the poweramp, or is it more difficult ?

that's a good option too (it's called master slave powersocket (stekkerdoos in dutch :P)), but I prefer the 12v trigger option.

I found this from PP design and I guess it's nr. one for the 12v power ?

Hi there

No problem, just use a Din to RCA convertercable, and only use the IN-leads as out-leads to the in-connectors on the amp. Plug the Din-plug into a powerlink socket. I do this to get the powerlink signal on my ouverture to a rega amp. Use the balance-controls to identify left and right.

To turn on the amp, i use a TV-energysaving plug (i have no idea of what it is called in english) like this: http://www.kpdata.dk/files/categories/TV-stromsparer_m.jpg

every time the energy consumption of the beocenter rises above 20 watts (eg. when you turn it on) the plug turns on all the other equipment, eg the amp. It was originally made to turn off vcrs, decoders, dvdpalyers and so on for your tv, but it works perfectly using my ouverture as master.

I'm still very happy with my bc9500, but I want to connect a poweramp for the extra power for my non-B&O speakers... I've read that it's possible to use a normal din to rca cable, but I want to know if it's also possible to use the 12v (or 5v what is it ?) out of the powerlink (normally this is used to send a on/off signal to a pair of 8000's for example). Thats because the power amp (Aaron no. 3) has a sort of 12v trigger (custum built in) that puts the machine on/off when it gets a signal. This would be very lovely, because the amp will stay out of vision and I'm to lazy to put it on and off when I wan't to enjoy music... I just wan't to use the Beo4 or 7000 . So, does anybody know if this is possible to built ?

btw, does anybody know where the line in/out was mentioned for ?

This is the beast...
