Alex, interesting you mentioned the TR6. My late father was a Triumph enthusiast and owned every TR car ever built. He bought and restored most of them himself. He had a proud collection that has long been sold off. The TR6 was a nice car and there are many examples of it still around but his absolute favourite was the TR3A, you can look it up on Google. He adored that car and I am sure he regretted selling it. I have to say that Triumph generally were not very reliable cars, they had poor mechanics and suffered with rust terribly. The TR7/8 which I always thought looked great design wise (many would disagree) was the worst disaster of all!

The camper van is a classic, had many a happy time travelling Europe with my neighbour and a few friends in my late teens. They used to have classic car shows at Sandown Race Course every year, they may well still go on. You could always see some amazing examples of camper's their and how people had customised them. I never forget this one I saw which had a jungle hand painted all over it. It was absolutly stunning. The most amazing artwork I have ever seen on a vehicle! God knows how long that took to do.

As much as I'd love a 70s car, I'm looking at a Peugeot 306 for my first car! My dad's had two (a GTI and a Rallye) and my mum's had two as well (a standard 306 plus a yellow cabriolet, eww), and they've all been very good cars (except for the yellow cabriolet, what a disgusting car ). The 306 is cheap, performs very well (amazing brakes), has fantastic proportions and looks good with the right choice of colour/trimmings etc... and has large bootspace + is cheap to insure and very reliable.

What a sensible young chap our Alex is!

Ha! I have a lot of good memories of my Mk3 GXL. Like the time it passed it's MOT with three brakes working, and a pair of Molegrips dangling off the brake pipe on the fourth! Or when the steering rack refused to let me turn right, I had to go past the junction then back round to the left until my car was lined up for the new road then drive ahead!! Learnd many new driving skills in that car

I have thought about a Triumph, the GT6 would seem more sensible. One of my dad's friends would no doubt be able to service them (he builds rally cars, so he's pretty adept).

Call me an Old Fart if you will but get something modern!! The reason cars like this are 'Sunday' cars isn't because they are classics or even mileage related - is because most folk can spare the time to breakdown on a Sunday

Just think of the size of Subwoofer you could use with the Class D output Stage that drives the Prius' electric motor

A Mk3 Cortina!! Truly awful car! My father had an M reg 2000GXL auto. It oversteered at 20MPH! It also rusted like sin and the inside trim was all plastic wood. And have you driven a TR6? Rotten driving position and no wider than my GT6.

It's not about the drive though, or the fact that it rusts... they had one in Life On Mars!!!

Don't agree I'm afraid. The current range of Audis are very cool and stylish in my opinion. I would certainly have an Audi over a Merc or a BMW at the moment for exactly that reason. The B&O and Audi collaboration was brilliant I say, and to the disagreement of many I know, I don't think the Aston Martin deal was cool at all. I suppose this is just another BL8000 / BL3 like discussion.

Agreed. Part of what I like about B&O's designs is that while they may have design and wow factor like no other product on the market, there's something very non 'flashy' about them, very subtle...

I guess that's why I like Audis, the styling is very subtle but image conscious at the same time.

Sometimes theres a lot to be said for understatement and prestige or image doesn't necessarily mean "in-yer-face". B&O's column speakers in polished aluminium, for example, were designed to 'disappear' among the background.

Flappo, not in the UK. In many ways, some people regard Audi above BMW over here, particular in regards to build quality. In the same way that Skoda is regarded as a poor brand in the UK and more a prestige brand in Germany (and vice-versa for VW).

Over here, BMW is very much a middle management car - you see many company car drivers with BMW's.
