thanks for response... yes I have treble checked... I have asked for an engineer to come and check them, as based on the responses I have had I think they should be performing better......

Thanks for the comments. A number of people have suggested that I should either get my speakers checked (or my ears!). As I am confident my ears are ok the dealer is sending out an engineer to check the speakers, along with some 8000's just in case.

Try the cd Amused to death by Roger Waters. Sound effects are mixed in Q-sound which give a 3d effect on good speakers. The 6000's manage very well. If speakers do not (and there are more than you can imagine) you can have doubts about the quality of the speakers.

They do have a tendency of sounding flat and lifeless, usually quite dull. They're still very impressive for their size though...

Adding a BeoLab 2 will give you more bass, but won't make things any more 'three-dimensional'. BeoLab 8000s will improve things significantly, but as others have said, their sound characteristics are similar to the 6000s in a lot of ways. They are more dynamic, much more 'powerful' and detailed, but still a little soft at times.

The BeoLab 3s should perform the best to what you're asking for. Very dynamic (even though they're smaller than 6000s), massively more detailed than the 8000s, incredible imaging and to my ears, much more balanced and 'natural' than the 6000s.

Owning BL6000 for 2 years, I am a little confused by your impressions. It sure is true that they lack a little of bass, but I never found the sound one-dimensional.

In 04/07, I upgraded to BL8000 and put the BL6000 in the rear, and the difference between the 2 sets is huge! You will not regret it, especially if you add a BL2.

I am talking to my dealer to upgade to 8000 or add a beolab 2 (and whther the additional cost is worth it). If anyone has experience of these products I would be glad to recieve an opinion.

The 6000 is one of the most balanced B&O speakers. It indeed lacks some power in the low but that can easily be adjusted with the help of a good subwoofer, like a REL Quake for instance. An advantage is that the 6000 doesn't stress low frequencies like many speakers nowadays do. You can like sound with a fat base, but if it is natural? Often the 8000 is described like a far better speaker, but in fact it is not much different from the 6000. The 8000 has more power and can deliver a higher sound pressure due to slightly bigger drivers, but from a technical perspective the 6000 and 8000 are comparable. So is the sound. The 8000 has more reserves and will deliver sound somewhat "easier", but the difference is not as big as often stated. If you do not like the sound of the 6000, which is possible, than I doubt if you will like the 8000. The 8000's advantages will appear at louder (or rather; very loud) volumes. The 6000 is hifi, that for sure. And yes I know them both and my ears are OK.

Listen to mid frequencies, voices and guitars and you will see the 6000 is a very good speaker. The stereo field is very good.

Are you sure your speakerunits are OK?

did you correctly set the channel switches on the speaker´s inputs (i.e. left speaker to (L)eft and right speaker to (R)ight)?

I don't own a pair of Beolab 6000's, but my experience is the same. The sound is reasonable but as a hifi speaker it's not good enough. I would upgrade to Beolab 8000's or Beolab 3's. I prefer the design of the Beolab 8000's, but the sound of the Beolab 3's is better in my humble opinion.
