Point taken, but the BV7-40 mark ii has a reputation for being too dark (various postings on this site). Certainly to make mine watchable, I have had to turn the brightness up to almost maximum, and even then it is sometime hard to distinguish, for instance, black jacket lapels from the rest of the jacket - something which was never the case with the Avant

Which? magazine now publishes ideal picture settings for all models it tests (brightness, contrat and colour) which I think is an excellent idea. My model is a BV7-40 markii and I would love to have this info. Does it exist, and if not should it?

I never understand why this should be the case. All this implies is that most TV manufacturers don't know how to set up their own TVs properly, which is not the case!

Whilst in principle this seems a good idea, in the B&O world it may not be so helpful because for most B&O TV products they set the user setting for Brightness, contrast and colour to the centre position as the ideal setting. From the service menu these can be changed, but few need to be, particularly if you have a Beovision 7-40 which gives an excellent picture straight out of the box.
