At the moment I only have Beolab 8000 and 6000 and 2 connected to it, so that is 4.1 but in setting the speaker mode I could only pick 2,3, or 5. Without the centre channel it sounds a bit hollow. Maybe it's time to get a Beolab 7.4 added on ;)

I also got a movie showing via the Beocenter2 but in b/w, which makes sense as taking a PAL input. That's no big deal. My biggest aim is to get the surround sound working.

Looks like a good start! I'll have to play with it a bit more! Thanks for everyone's help!

Re: Beosystem 1 in Australia

By the way Klas, I'm using a 240V-110V step down converter that outputs 250W. I wonder if that would have anything to do with the flicking on/off of the picture? It's showing in colour though which is great!

Re: Beosystem 1 in Australia

Hi guys,

I finally got a video signal through the VGA cable and displaying on my Dell LCD monitor!! I have no idea what happened, but I tried it again today and plugged the Proj Out to my monitor and turned the BS1 on. This time the LCD monitor flashed a few times with the message "Cannot display signal" and flashed a few times again and came up with the TV menu! Yeay!! The only thing is sometimes the signal would go off for a couple of seconds and come back on so the picture flicks on and off, on and off. Not sure why though because my monitor should be able to display 60Hz with no problems.

It's currently displaying 480i as I could check on my monitor it is showing 640x480 @ 60Hz.

I'll have to check out plugging in my speakers to it and see if it works! At least I can choose my Beolab 8000 and 6000 and Beolab 2 in the speaker settings.

Anyone know what the NTSC/PAL setting beojeff mentioned? I'm too chicken to try too ;)

More news on whether the speakers work when connected to come....

Thanks everyone...

Re: Beosystem 1 in Australia

In the service menu, there is an option to select "NTSC/PAL" under SERVICE MENU > MONITOR > PICTURE ADJUSTMENTS > COLOR SYSTEM. I was suspcious that is the case with NTSC. I'm using an LCD monitor connected via VGA rather than a TV, so I'm not sure if there's PAL/NTSC issue with a monitor. I would have thought if you plug an NTSC source into a PAL TV, it would show a terrible distorted picture rather than having no signal at all? I'm getting nothing displayed on screen at all - so the display looks the same whether I've plugged in the output or not.

I think my current TV isn't NTSC so I can't test that on the TV but I'll be getting an LCD panel next year so I'll make sure it shows NTSC.

Was trying to test the audio source though. I plugged in the red-white RCA from an audio source, then I turned on the Beosystem1 (pressing TV button on the Beo4 and hearing a "tick"), then I pressed DVD on the Beo4 (no tick this time) and was hoping there would be sound but that didn't happen (although the speaker LED went green). A pity I can't see and change the setting on the TV. Maybe I need to try it at a friends place if they have an NTSC TV.

Also, Klas, do you know if B&O in Australia would service the Beosystem1? As I think it is only sold in the States?

Thanks again mate!!

Beomud

Re: Beosystem 1 in Australia

Hey Beomud; I have a BS 1 and i also happen to live in Australia.

I belive booth your sources as well as your TV needs to be capable of NTSC; i've set my DVD to output in NTSC and my TV manages that as well....

"The tick" you hear is indeed the BS1 switching on indicating the IR has been received

Klas

Beosystem 1 in Australia

Hi everyone,I've recently got a pre-loved Beosystem1 from the States and I have trouble getting it work here. I've got a 110-240V transformer and no problems on that front. However I have trouble getting the picture to come up on either my TV or my LCD monitor. I suspect it might have to do with NTSC vs PAL format.

Has anyone ever got a Beosystem 1 working in a PAL country? I've connected the power and also tuned the Beo4 to recognise it. Then I've plugged the Proj Out to my LCD monitor (which can display up to 1920x1280) but when I press the TV button, there's a click coming from the Beosystem1 (which means it must have gotten the IR signal from Beo4) but there's no video signal showing on the LCD monitor. I've also tried connecting the S-Video and Video out from REC OUT but to no avail as well.

Any friends here able to shed some light on this? Without a video signal, I can't do anything with it.

Thanks!!

Beomud
