It cost me £45, still sign written, maroon at the bottom half and grey at the top. Both the front wings had gaping rust holes at the base of the windscreen pillars and the heater never worked.

I'm going back 40 odd years, still in the sixth form and the only kid in the school with a car. Mattress in the back, country lanes to park up.........magic times!!!

Sometimes I used to transport the girls basketball team all over the area. As many as I could cram in the back, three in the front plus me. I remember the handbrake was in a wonderfull warm place............'nuff said.

Re: What do I do when my avant (tube) goes wrong?

From what I remember from previous posts Graham, it isn't a straightforward tube swap as there are all sorts of set - up issues to take into account. Unless someone can find a cheaper option then buying a good RF (real flat screen) used one 2nd hand works out cheaper than replacing the tube.

I'm certainly no expert so I could be proved wrong here but I believe the tubes were supplied by Phillips and that's about as much as I know.

Please let us know how you get on as there are plenty of these out there with this problem which is a bit of a shame as most people are intent on the newer flat panel LCD/Plasma sets, most of which don't come close to the picture of an Avant as yet.

Chris.

Forgot to add - @ £500 for a replacement tube from B&O was the last I heard - if they still supply them of course.

Re: What do I do when my avant (tube) goes wrong?

I meant "correctly", I am not Jonathan Ross. Apparently they did and I remember him having a b&o in his workshop pre avant but post wood paneling, this would have been around 1990. It looked more like a standard TV, square rather than rectangular. Well that is if my memory serves me coeewctly.

Re: What do I do when my avant (tube) goes wrong?

Did Rumbalows sell B&O then, I never knew that. That is a name from the past I have not heard for a few years.

Craig

What do I do when my avant (tube) goes wrong?

Hi

Someone in an earlier post said that if a tube in early avant breaks, it is not economical to repair. However, my uncle is a TV repair man who has worked on b&o when sold in Rumbalows. Thus, roughly how much would a tube cost and can I get from anywhere other than b&o. Would it still be an expensive job?

Thanks

Graham
