New drivers from B&O cost around £25 each so £200 for the full set.

Replacing the foam is certainly possible to do one's self but does need to be done carefully. The problem with the Penta is that there are a lot of drivers! This means replacing the drivers will be expensive and although this would be the best idea, it may well be just too expensive. Reconing the speakers with new foam will be about £25 to get done professionally for each drive unit so this isn't cheap either. I believe Chris has refoamed a number of speakers himself and can possibly offer advice. This will be cheap and if it goes wrong, you can always replace them anyway so not much to lose!

In my experience you really need to drive a 5500 hard to ever get the fan to turn on.

Welcome to Beoworld...

There are user and service manuals on the Beoworld site for all the Beolab Pentas, however you do need to sign up as a silver or gold member for access to them..

Many members have changed the foam on many types of B&O speakers and I am sure Peter will provide fully details.

With regards to the fan on the 5500, I have looked at the circuit diagram which is also on the Beoworld site and the fan is controlled by a very complex temperature sensing circuit and so the fan should only run if it reaches a defined temperature. Also as the power to the circuit is shut off when you put the Beomaster into standby means the fan will never run in standby, which is a surprise because the temperature raises most when you switch off a piece of electronics equipment.

I have 2 issues that I need help with. I have a set of Beolab Penta type 6601. Assume these are the first ones made (1). Searched B&O for a user manual for the same but can not find this model. Can anyone help me with a manual?

The foam on a cople of speakers are worn out. See that pople are selling foam sorround on EBay. Anyone tried to do this themselves or would it be best to buy a new speaker?
I also have the 5500 system and need to know about the fan in the main amplifier. There is a fan installed but I thought it should run at all times, also in stand by. Do anybody know if this fan should run always or not. When I connect power it moves just a fraction and stops. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
