You asked if it is possible to view HD channels on the Avant.

Although I use a different model, Avant US, I am able to view HD content by selecting the output at 480p from my STB, set top box.

Working for a major MSO (multiple service operator), I do notice a significant difference between digital and HD channels on my Avant.

I'm not a resolution snob, but until recently my coworkers thought the Avant was a much higher resolution.

Thanks Alex, I see what you mean. Hope you are enjoying your BeoLab 4s by the way. I will probably buy these at some point. For the moment I have decided to buy a MAC instead of a new PC. It can run Vista and Office, so why not? Can't decide whether to get an all in one job though or the mini, perhaps with Apple TV too. B&O don't offer anything yet, so...

Think of it like taking a low quality image off the internet, and then blowing it up to fill the screen.

In a standard definition signal, there are generally around 500 'lines' of information (one line being a row of pixels across the screen). HD is made up from 720 or more lines of information across the screen. Extra lines can be added in, but the result isn't all that special without some very clever maths (the BeoSystem 3 does an admirable job of it, but it's still not quite 'HD').

The easiest way to explain it is that SD is a much smaller amount of information than HD, and a computer cannot add in extra information.

Philips has one but that one has a HDMI input. The avant only has scart so can never recieve HDTV

OK Bingo thanks. I was thinking about it for my Mum's Avant but to be honest she wouldn't be fussed either way. I am not sure I fully understand why having an SD signal means it can't be converted to a digital HD one? I am sure I did see a tube tv set in a high street electrical shop that was receiving an HD signal.

Even if you can. 32 inch is too small to see much of the benefits of HDTV.
