Beolab:

I´m about to order the BL 8000 in Dark Grey, but i have a strange feeling that B&O are going to update the BL 8000 to MK III in a short time..
It would be ICE Power driven and have a wider frequency range set to 37-20.000Hz instead of 52-20.000Hz...More like a Beolab 1 but in a more slim and elegant package...

Maybe that's what I heard and thougt that the MK III already was available...

Ah, the old b&o trick "use over-dimensioned amps to compensate for small box volume" :-)

Not the best way to build a speaker, as it often leads to non-linear behaviour - usual frequency plots look good, but when fed with a more dynamic signal (such as music) the result is not as good.

I'm not saying saying b&o make bad speakers, I'm just saying that their visual design leads to compromises. Om the other hand, I prefer that to having large ugly boxes in my livingroom :-) As usual, I'm more than willing to lose some in performance as long as I can have B&O's beautiful products and UI.

A number of us would debate that much changed except the reliability - which is obviously worth it!

Hi Tom,

I'm just pretty sure I've heard somewhere that the newest BL 8000s are MK III. But chances are that I'm wrong...

So this text means that the MK II was available from January 2003??

This is from the BL8000 product-page here on beoworld. I think this is what you are looking for, but what do you mean with MK III. I thought there was only MK I and MK II.

News: From January 2003, BeoLab 8000 was obtainable with new driver units giving extra bass at low levels. While not delivering as much as a BeoLab 2 (dedicated sub-woofer) the bass drivers with the newer BeoLab 8000 have a marked improvement over their predecessors. The upgrade involved new frequency equalization and improved ABL system. These improvements are mostly apparent at high volume levels. The changes are implemented form serial 16992475 onwards.
