I just returned the VCR to the shop, they seem to think it might be a faulty tuner - if that doesn't work, I might have a go at the earth thing - or just return the friggin' thing for good

Yes! The outer bit of the aerial plug.
Just try it with any bit of old wire first. If you attatch it to a radiator, make sure it is a copper bit ie not painted.
If that works then you can do a 'proper' job. Good luck

Run a wire from the outer shell of the co-axial plug to an earth - the top pin of a 3 pin plug is easy or a radiator pipe. Just use any wire initially - you can smarten it up if it works!

I tried to retune the TV to no avail, I'm afraid. I'll go see the vender tomorrow and ask if perhaps he's got a new set of cables - or if he's got an idea as to what might be the problem.

I'm not much of an electrician myself - I'm not sure what "earth problem" implies specifically, so I'd appreciate an explanation :-)

The V8000 is a new addition - I exchanged it for a V6000, which was damaged - although it gave no trouble.
I'll try to re-tune the TV - although I doubt if it'll work, frankly. There seems to be nothing wrong with the tuning when the TV is connected to the VCR, so long as the VCR is on standby. Also, the trouble is only with a few of the channels - not all, which is mysterious!
The cable between the TV and the VCR is actually a "left-over" from the V6000 - could that be the problem? The cable seems pretty much standard.

Having re-read your post, ( properly) I think Peters sugestion of a possible earth problem is possible, as is maybe a poor scart lead. If the issue is only present when the vcr is out of standby, then the TV itself obviously fine.

True- although I'm not sure from the original post if the V8000 is a new addition or if it has faulted and was previoulsy OK.

Two points - a bit simplistic, but its often the case that these are the overlooked causes of apparent faults.

Firstly, nowe the VCR is connected, try retuning the TV from scratch, as if new. The TV copying its channels to the VCR happens during set up, so if you have simply added a VCR - say from another room - then this "handshake" may not have occured, and trhe VCR may have tuning errors from a previous set up.

Secondly, a poor/damaged RF cable between TV and VCR could give these symptoms, if the grainy channels are weaker than others, and cannot get enough signal into the VCR's tuner.

Or it could be faulty, as its unusual to get two tuners ( TV and VCR ) getting different results in the same room, with the same incoming signal.

I wonder if it an earth issue. Try earthing the aerial feed.

In the MX Sockets menu did you set AV1 to V-Tape (B&O)?

I've been trying to use a Beocord V8000 with my MX4000. I use a Beolink 5000 remote set for one-way communication. I didn't find any clues in either of the userguides as to how to connect the two appliances and as such I've been using a method of trial-and-error and come up with this: An antenna cable connects the antenna socket on the MX to the socket "TV" on the V8000 and a second cable connects the socket above the "TV" socket to the antenna. As such, the signal goes through the V8000 before entering the MX. Furthermore, the two are connected with a SCART from AV1 (MX) to AV (V8000)

No problem so far. But the minute I turn on the V8000 a few of the preset channels on the MX go all wobly and grainy - not all, only a few! The same problem is visible when I record from those "grainy" channels. The second I turn the VCR off the TV works fine.

In the V8000 setup menu I've tried to tune channels - but unlike in the userguide there's no "tuning" available in the on-screen menu. Perhaps this is because the VCR uses the tunings from the MX.

I'm wondering if I've connected anything in a wrong manner - or if anyone has experienced similar problems? It's annoying especially since the channels to go grainy are all my favourite - and the ones I view less frequently are the ones not affected
