Alex is correct that they do a variety of things on different products. Cue and Review in video products is an obvious one and they are also instrumental in choosing how to browse music stored on your computer if using a Mac and N.Music. Also used with the Set Top Box Controllers with TV sets. They work as the coloured buttons when controlling a set top box, they serve many different functions whilst operating a DVD player, such as calling up the DVD menu, they function different things with certain CD players as well.
