Velodyne make fantastic subs, REL also deserve a mention. Linn have a fantastic model out as well...

They are manufacturing incredible subwoofers....

Sorry, I meant from style and such. I had a pair of KEFs years ago... They had the Uni-Q tweeter-in-woofer thing. No idea if they still do. I liked them a lot. Maybe that's why I'm willing to give this sub a shot...

Dilznik -- See what you mean it is really similiar in look to the PV1

Alex -- I have always considered KEF to be a fine manufacturer of speakers. However you do not find their best on their basic lines. Their reference series is where you need to look. I was lucky enough to own just their smallest reference speakers once I think they were 200 series. Magnificent for their size! I would put money on the fact that their 209 sub would blow our sock off (and its adjustable) but you wont see the right side of 10000 dollars US.

Why did I give the 200's away -- I am still asking that question but getting them right in a cob cornish cottage was not easy despite their size and the BL8000 managed the job better -- for positioning that is.

KEF are certainly not a B&W ripoff, and they haven't really done anything particularly notable that I've heard recently, I think they've gone downhill to be honest!

The PV1 will be very different to the KEF due to the electronics inside, which the KEF just doesn't have.

The BeoLab 2 does have a built in crossover though, which is something you definitely want...

So I went down to the only B&W guy in town looking for a PV1. They didn't have any. They did, however, have this KEF. http://reviews.cnet.com/separate-speakers/kef-htb2-silver/4505-7869_7-32317403.html

It'll hide away well and if someone does notice it, at least it looks kind of cool. I'm pretty sure all KEF does is rip B&W off and make their stuff half as expensive. Indeed, this sub is 700 euros compared to the PV1's 1500 euros. The only thing is, no active volume or crossover. The BL2 also doesn't have that, but does it matter? Does a BeoSound system react differently to a BL2 than it would to any other sub?

I'll go back and borrow it next week to try out with my own system at home.
