Yes its a shame.

Oh and there is more. They had a cat which enjoyed opening my beosound3000 doors and trying to scratch at the spinning cd! My keyboard on my laptop will never be the same as the cat picked lots of them off. He is an inocent cat i suppose. Never clawed any speaker cloth luckily.

I was in my dealers the other day and someone bought some really old piece of gear in for repair. Her child ran riot in the store, touching the screens with grubby fingers. The kid even knocked of a pile of brochures and a BeoLab 6000
I was horrified. The lady didn't even say sorry when she left.

I've taken our Beosound 1 to a number of parties in Brasil without a scratch or dent as yet. 2 years ago I made a lite plywood box with a handle and lock on top for the unit, AUX to RCA cable, and a stack of CDs. I've connected it to SKY TV and other sound sources ( World Cup, ) using the AUX connector at the bottom of the unit. But the unit is always within sight, and the Beo 4 stays with me.

I accept the fact that sooner or later it might be dinged a bit, but I accept the risk. But the design and craftmanship quality always draws people towards it.

More expensive equipment like our BS 3200 + BL 4000 or 2000 etc. are all wall mounted anyway, high on the masonry away from small fingers and hands ( hopefully ).

Sort of related, but I have NEVER allowed anyone to move, alter my B & O. Whenever I have moved from one place to another, the B & O is one of a few things I entrust to only myself.

As for roomies, maybe telling them what the B & O is worth and making them sign something that states if anyting gets damaged, they'll have to foot the bill if anything happens would do the trick. Here in the states, a standard roomate rental agreement isn't unheard of.

Its a real shame. I did the same and my flatmates had a bit of a "play" with my 3000 and 4000 speakers. You would think that people would be proud to be in an environment with such classy and beautiful stuff. But no, they seem to take a sadistic pleasure in having a go at other peoples stuff.

At the end of the day, there are just some real dickheads out there - period.

My 4 year old grand-daughter and 18 month old grandson know they haven't to touch my 8000s, Pentalabs or Avant.
Perhaps your ex-flatmates lack breeding!

Never had any issues with my B&O kit and friends, in fact it tends to be the cause of quite a few 'oooh's and 'aaah's when they see/hear it working. In fact I've had my band sleeping over in the same room last weekend, and they in fact seemed to want to talk about the system quite a lot...

I regularly bring out my Beosound 1 for parties in my student flat. It's pretty much perfect for it and touch wood there have been no incidents.

That is shocking! Apart from the fact that its B&O equipment, the items belonged to you and the way that they treated them is a total lack of consideration and respect for you. Might have also been a bit of a case of jealousy? There are no excuses though!

I am sorry to hear about this Tim.

I'm not sure I would buy as much B&O as I do if I had to lock it away each time friends were staying with me!
In fact, having my B&O on display is one of the reasons why I buy the stuff because it is a thing of beauty and I very much enjoy the sight of my B&O.

I hope you are greeted with more respectful flat mates in the future, and I suppose you'll just be more cautious from now on, which is a shame that you have to worry about this kind of thing.

If you go into another share home set your gear up in your bedroom with a dead lock. When friends come over the most I let them do is hold the Beo4 but now I have a Beo5 i'm skeptical, maybe i'll pull out the Beo4 when guests come over.

That really is a pain, but wasn't it somehow foreseeable? I would never take such expensive stuff into a such a crowded house. Did you know all the people before moving there?

Sorry to hear that news...unfortunately some people just don't have any respect for other peoples possessions...wearing shoes on our carpets is generally enough to up-set me!

I lent someone my Playstation and a few games once...and when i got it back the thing was covered in dust and stains and the cds were all covered in fingerprints...never again...my dad always says 'never be a lender or borrower be'!
