I think David is right about the BL4000s being too big. I would just like someting relatively compact and subtle by shape and design that can produce a nice sound.

Thanks for showing us a photo of BL4 enjoying a rubber doughnut Santiago, they look good I think and I'm interested to hear the sound difference with the elevation.

In my opinion the BL4000's a way way WAY too big for the desk! they looked ridiculous on our desk. With the BL4's set like Santiago's i suspect the sound quality would be sufficient for iTunes etc. for their size.

Thanks for putting up that the picture, that looks great (except they should be in red or grey )! What an easy solution eh!

As for the Lab4 PC versions, for the extra i would always go for the ones with Powerlink as you can always utilise them in the house if you ever fancy a change or feel they are too much for your computer. Soundwise, i'm not overawed by the 4's.. I think the CX100's are incredible, and even the CX50's are good, especially for the price they are now.

I bought a pair of Lab4 PC's from a closed down dealer earlier this year, and have them at the BeoWorld Office for when i take the Mac down there, and although they do sound good i think they are too much for a PC. I tend not to be able to concentrate as much when i have music on, my mind drifts into the tune and i become useless!

Henry - you can audition any speaker at any time at the shop - i usually have the full range there, and it's always great to see a BeoWorlder - even if the phone rings non-stop all day in the background!

BeoLab 4000s are actually very suitable computer loudspeakers. The problem with the 3s is that they tend to reveal everything in the recording, which for a computer isn't always a good thing as you'll be listening to lower quality sounds a lot of the time (such as compressed music etc...), and BeoLab 4s just aren't enough for some. BeoLab 4000s are much better speakers than the 4s, but are much more forgiving when it comes to poor recordings/compression than the BeoLab 3s.

I really love the aesthetics of the BL4 and would love to have them either side of our mac. Ah if only money grew on tree's...

Not being Peter or Craig, please excuse my comment

I use CX100's as PC speakers and I am very settled with them, both esthetically and performance wise.

Prior to installing them I tried S30, P45, BL4000 - The problem with them was size. All had to be spaced far enough apart not to get in the way but too far for a good stereo image. Since my desk is up against a wall I couldn't get far enough away to get in focus.

I tried BL4 in the shop with the intention of buying but was put off by the lack of bass and footprint.

CX100 is not that cheap when you buy a good pair or rebuild with new speakers and grilles plus the passive or MCL2A are going for double the prices of a year ago.

The bass is fine for me. Besides if I am working too much bass becomes tiring and a distraction for me. Compared to the full 5.1 system in the sitting room I think I prefer it for normal stereo listening.

My thoughts anyway - hope they help you decide.

Oh I see what you mean now David. The BL4s on BL3 table stands? I think they might look a bit silly then and the wires would still be visible too, but I will call my dealer today and ask him whether this is possible or not.

David: If I bought myself another pair of BL3s I would have them on the rubber rings on my desk, not on the floor or table stands. I personally think they're just too powerful for what I need, plus the ALTs seems to go to waste as the BL3s would only be a metre apart at the most!
soundproof: Thanks for your interesting comment. My desk is right up against the wall and my monitor is right at the back of the desk against the wall. Therefore I would have the BL4s either side of the display right near the wall. Would this improve the bass do you think? Sorry if my mental picture hasn't been painted very clearly!

I was talking about mounting the BEOLAB 4 on the stands, which would elevate them from the desks surface improving the sound. Something tells me that these stands wont fit however...
