We previously had Beolab 9s connected to an Avant and a Velodyne sub connected directly to the Avant. It seemed to me that turning the sub away directed too much bass away from the 9s. I only wanted the sub to play the very lowest frequencies that the 9 could not reach. I finallyturned the sub off because I wanted all bass to go to the 9s even if I was missing the very lowest frequencies. We now have the 9s and sub connected to a BV7 MKIII and so far I do not seem to notice the same problem.

Re: Beolab 2 Dolby Digital set-up or Dolby Pro-Logic set-up?

If I listen to music from the BS4 as per fig. This thread still leaves unanswered the question of the sub going through the DTS as compared with the powerlink socket of the speaker. From this thread I understand that the latter replaces the bass on the speakers and thus is better for music whereas the former adds to the bass on the speakers and is better for DVD.

Do we need two sub woofers -- no surely not so what is going on. There is more than one person on this site wanting to add a non-b&o sub. I don't want a system whereby I have to change the leads every time I watch a DVD (or alternatively play music). Because the two fronts are connected to the Dolby and that recognises that music is being played (i.e. the third --tv speaker) cuts out automatically I thought that connecting the sub woofer to the tv might be controlled similiarly. On the other hand may be it isn't and is only useful for DVD's in that position. If thats the case I don't want it.

Re: Beolab 2 Dolby Digital set-up or Dolby Pro-Logic set-up?

Does anybody know the science between the too set-up options?

I would hazard a guess the DD5.1 system is designed to redirect the bass from a DD5.1 source to the Beolab2 if SUBWOOFER is set to YES.

But an audio system connected to the TV does not have the same effect resulting in bass to all speakers. ??

Anybody confirm?

Re: Beolab 2 Dolby Digital set-up or Dolby Pro-Logic set-up?

wtlc2zpx:

It is not about the system that is used in broadcasting, it is about the system that is in your TV. When I am using music does the "system" (and lets face it thats what we buy even if we assemble it in stages) prevent over-bassing the process by running the beolab 2 as well as the bass on the 8000. I was hoping that the presence of one would make the others un-necessary or reduce at the minimum. I don't want to spend whatever it is just to find out that I have much too much bass (or boominess). I really do believe its a modern trend to concentrate music (mostly manufactured) on the bass and treble.

These were the concerns I have when I tested the 9's. I couldn't really get a satisfactory mid-range (although it was a shop test and hardly fair given the music he was playing). My 8000's are just what I want + an extension to the bass I am not looking for the bass to take over.

Re: Beolab 2 Dolby Digital set-up or Dolby Pro-Logic set-up?

That what I would have thought but in testing it doesn't sound that way.
